ID: Finish Pics

Here are a few gorgeous shots from from Barbara. She went out to the Road Crossing five miles out of town to capture some images of team coming in, then was at the finish line to see them arrive. It was a beautiful night to come home to Nome.

ID: Videos from Nome

I found good internet!!! Here are a couple of videos from Nome. The first is what I managed to capture from the finish chute.

Aliy took each of the hounds for a walk yesterday and I captured some of the fun she had with Chipper and Dutch.

Aliy got some fantastic video and photos out on the trail and we will share them with you over the next couple weeks so stay tuned…

ID: Out and About in Nome

Things have certainly slowed down for us here in Nome now. We ran a few errands today:

Facebook followers will know Aliy did a Facebook Live interview with the Insider team. And, thanks Drew for providing us with a side-by-side to get around town in!

We also stopped by the dog yard to walk them around a little and give mid-afternoon snacks. We took jackets off for a while so they could enjoy the sunshine on their coats and give them a good back scratch.

While we were there Aliy bumped into Mats Petterssen, Jessie Holmes and Ketil Reitan and they talked dogs (of course!) All were impressed with Chipper!

Five enjoyed the sunshine
Sparkie is such a flirt
Driver’s so handsome

Thanks to all our Dog Sponsors, Team Members and Dog Fan Club Members. Your postcards from Nome were posted today! Remember they are coming from the Western Coast of Alaska so have a looong way to travel.

CREW UPDATE

Jeff, Bridgett and Barbara flew back to Anchorage today where Jeff will meet Allen’s team off the plane from Unalakleet tomorrow. He’ll drive them back to the kennel where I’m sure they will be pleased to be.

Aliy, Allen and Moira are still in Nome. A2 have the Iditarod Finishers Club meeting and Meet the Musher tomorrow and the banquet is Sunday evening. We and Aliy’s dogs will fly to Anchorage on Monday then home to the kennel.

ID: Dog Yard Visit

Aliy and Allen visited the dog yard this morning while the dogs were napping. I caught a few pics.

Allen’s team is in Unalakleet awaiting a flight out. Lots of flights have been grounded today including passenger planes so they may be spending another night out there. They’re all great and being well looked after. We are checking on them via phone regularly.

ID: Welcome To Nome

Welcome to Nome Aliy, Dutch, Chipper, Kodiak, Spark, Clyde, Rodney, Five, Nomex, Driver and Violet! And congratulations to Champ, Cayenne, Scooby, Junior, Felix and Commando – your contribution was so important.

We’re so proud of you.

A huge crowd turned out to greet Aliy and the team, it was really touching to have such support.

More tomorrow: everyone is sleeping now. THANK YOU for following along. We’ll have more from the dog yard, meet the mushers and the banquet during the week.

ID: Through Safety

The Red Team is through Safety! We can’t wait… a couple more hours, one more hill and they will be home!

Now they are through Safety (and Spark has said hi to his sponsor Deb Davis who is a volunteer checker out there), they follow the Nome-Council road for ten miles up and over Cape Nome then follow the beach to town. They will pop up onto Front Street right beside the Subway store and have a police escort down the street, complete with flashing lights, to the finish chute. There, we will be waiting.

We are ready for them to arrive with snacks thawing and dinner soaking, beds fluffed and warm jackets and blankets to hand.

We were watching particularly closely as the team moved through the “blow hole” area as that can get very rough and scary there, but they held their speed and stayed the course so they must have caught it at a rare calm moment. I captured this screen shot of the team doing 11.3 mpg along the Nome-Council Road! They are all keen to be here!

The team is holding their own at the moment in 15th position, and putting some distance between them and Kelly Maxiner and Jessie Royer, who are hot on their heels. It could be another case of “wait and see” who comes down the street first. Regardless of their final position we are incredibly proud of them all.

Once the team arrives we need to tend to dogs and to Aliy then I will report back when I can. Be sure to watch the live feed on the Insider and I might be able to post some pics directly to Instagram and/or Facebook (internet dependent).

Edit: LOOK WHO’S HERE! We are so pleased to see him!
