Normally, about this time, the Aliy and Allen, along with the dogs and crew would be visiting the Matson offices at the Port of Anchorage to say ‘hi’ and thank them for their unwavering support for over 15 years. They didn’t get to do that this year but instead had a Zoom catch-up with the team earlier in the week. Aliy will carry their good wishes and support down the trail with her.
Matson have set up a wonderful tribute website ‘Aliy’s Last Great Race‘ with a gallery of some incredible pics, downloads – including Zoom backgrounds for all those virtual catch-ups and meetings – and her career timeline.
The coolest thing is a virtual Retirement Card that everyone can sign. Check it out and leave her your message – she’ll enjoy reading them when she gets off the trail, and for many years to come.

Idea being thrown around the living room here, that if you have any “stuff” left over, I can guarantee you could sell every last red beanie you own. I know we want one. Maybe another ball cap? How bout a sweatshirt? Just saying.
I use to live in Alaska and helped out at the Ceremonial Start – downtown Anchorage and then headed to Willow for the Restart. Helping mushers to the starting line and then tracking their progress throughout the race. I would admire you Aliy as I wanted you to win. I could see your strength. It’s been ten years since I’ve lived there but have returned for the week of the race to watch. Imagining what life would have been like as a young girl in Alaska. My father raised dogs for police work. That was my environment. So going to Alaska and seeing this adventurous race all in keeping the memory of the serum run alive I felt alive ! This is an awesome life for the bold and the strong and the dedicated. And that’s what you have to have. There’s so much work that comes to that starting line. The “ Go “ is the show ! The freedom of the trail to put all that work together with your enduring friends all on the line leading the way. Who could ever imagine such a journey. So like this year as the ones before – Race – race with all your heart ! Knowing you’ve had followers from afar – admiring and encouraging you in thought and prayers. Go Aliy go – stay strong you’ve had this !
