We had planned to do a bunch of Dog Fan Club draws during the Iditarod. Obviously, we didn’t get to that so to catch up we have randomly drawn SIX names today.

Congratulations to Marti Guarin who is a fan of Nacho, Wu fan Lyn Medley, Amber fan Amy Miller, Lezlee Pardo who is a fan of Decaf, Ziptie fan Debi Riley and Barbara Tharp who is a fan of Commando. Everyone wins a packet of SP Kennel M&Ms plus a glam shot of their dog and some other kennel goodies.

Nacho and Wu represent the oldest and youngest sled dogs at the kennel. Nacho is enjoying his retirement and wanders around the yard visiting the ladies while the crew is feeding and scooping. He lives in his own pen – he’s never been that comfortable inside so he has a double insulated house and space to enjoy. Nacho will be 15 in three months and is showing us all a great example of happy retirement.

Wu had a wonderful season training and has shown that his superior genetics have transferred into practice. Some springtime mushing on local trails is in his near future!

Amber, Decaf and Commando are now back at the kennel having had an unexpected adventure involving a couple of airplanes, camping in McGrath for a few days and meeting a bunch of new people. All would have taken it in their stride but we’re sure they are pleased to be home.

Before the Iditarod, Aliy took Ziptie out to show us all the different ways she help around the kennel.

  • Congratulations winners!
I love the video of Ziptie!! That is too funny 🙂 Such a happy pup! She could run the Iditarod pulling the sled backwards! 🙂

I hope you are feeling better, Aliy!!

  • So excited to have won this for Commando! I’ve had my eye on him since his first Iditarod, and he hasn’t disappointed. His picture can join the one of Lydia, whom I helped get to New Zealand. Love all those dogs!

  • Wow, thanks! This was a nice surprise today, fun to be a winner on the same day the leaders finish the Iditarod. Although I am very much missing Aliy on the trail. I sure hope your recovery is going well and you will be out on a trail with your dogs sometime soon.

I loved the Ziptie video! I am guessing that she is now using her nursing skills to help Aliy heal (gotta love labs for that!)

  • Congrats to the winners!!! Love the video of how “helpful” Ziptie is….the box attack was especially hilarious!!!

  • Wow time flies. It seems like just a couple years ago Nacho and Quito were in their prime and leading your team to second place finishes in the Iditarod and first place finishes in the Yukon Quest. What an amazing dog, approaching 15 is quite the feat.
Aliy and Zip-tie thank you for the awesome belly laugh. I’m impressed she really did get the poop sled about halfway to the drop.
    Congratulations winners.

  • Awwwwe! Ziptie! What a funny sweetie!! Thanks for sharing … had a nice chuckle over her cuteness.❣️

  • What a nice surprise to win a drawing! I remember Nacho racing, and since we are both retired now, I wanted to give him a tip of the hat!
As ever, SP Kennel is so thoughtful of its fans.
