It’s 1pm Yukon Time.

Allen and his mates are resting in the checkpoint after quite a challenging trip over from Carmacks. Wind and snow was forecast and wind and snow is what they got! Allen said at one point the wind over the lakes was 50mph and visibility very poor. He could not see Cody’s tracks until just at the very end when the storm passed.

Aliy captured the team arriving into the checkpoint. On the Quest’s version of this video you can hear Bridgett ask Allen “is your sled broken anywhere?” Luckily his repair held up.

You’ll notice the dogs have been switched to wearing their wind-breaker jackets. It was warm overnight and so they did not need the puffy coats they wear at -40F. The jackets break the wind and keep them dry but they are able to keep cool in the warming air.

Coincidently, I captured on the tracker at that exact moment as they crossed the Klondike Highway.

Aliy sat down with Allen as he awaited the arrival of his burger and asked him about the trip. At one stage Allen had to get in front of the team to try to find the trail. Sounds like every one of them worked really hard.

The dogs did an exceptional job overnight and are now enjoying their sleep in the sunshine.

Returned dog update

Allen will be leaving Braeburn with 12 team mates. Decaf has joined his brother Perky and will finish the race in the truck. He worked so hard last night and put in all the effort of a dog pulling the sled all by himself. He is simply tuckered out and is sleeping hard already.

Perky is doing great also, he has rested for a couple days now and is ready to get back out there!

Perky is perky, Decaf is not

The earliest Allen and team can leave Braeburn is 6:46pm.

  • Wow – now that’s a tough sledding report!!!

These verbal messages and interview-like sound recordings are so wonderful!!! Thanks ever so much!!!

The Black Team is awesome!!! Get better Decaf – you good doggie you!!!

    WOOF WOOF WOOF

  • A hard race and wow, what a difference between the two brothers look. By the time the team is off the trail, these two will be ready to take a spin around Whitehorse. We are super proud of Decaf, he does overdo, doesn’t he? Maybe just trying to prove he’s NOT decaffeinated. Well, good boy Decaf, you’ll look like Perky in no time buddy. Rest up team and the last leg will be ok. Wishing rest and rejuvenation for all. Go SPK!

  • Nice video of the team arriving in Braeburn. They all look great. Perhaps another year Allen will earn the Veterinarian’s Choice Award.

That is a BURGER, nice of her to cut it in four.
Thanks for taking moment from your busy schedule for an interview Allen. Time to eat!

Good to see Decaf is cozy with his littermate Decaf. Rest up pups. You ran a great race.
I hope all are getting a fantastic nap and all the food they want before the run to the finish.

  • Decaf you are awesome! Good job buddy! Again, the team looks great coming in. And that’s a whopper of a hamburger and potatoes too! Yum! Eat well, rest well team. Thanks Aliy & Bridgett for your awesome reports, videos, recordings! Looking forward to seeing this team cross the finish line.

  • Love the recording and too here Allen’s voice. Thanks for taking the time when you had that
huge burger to eat. Have not seen any that size!!! Decaf– you have run a great race and it looks
like Perky is ready to go again! That stretch was a dandy so can see why Decaf is wore out!
Thanks for the video and reports Bridgett and Aliy! Go Allen and SP Dogs–will be waiting for
the video of the finish line! SP is the BEST!

  • I would like to visit Braeburn just to eat some awesome food! So glad to hear about the great hospitality….just wish mother nature was a little more calm for the Teams…sounds like you all could have done without the wind! Perky and Decaf no doubt are enjoying the TLC and much needed rest! Now back to the tracker!

  • I noticed Decaf was limping a bit coming in…nothing a little massage and nice rest won’t fix I’m sure. I have to say, I’ve never seen a burger cut into pieces like a pizza before – lol, but from the size of that thing, I can see why! 😉 Thinking good thoughts for a safe run into Whitehorse! Thanks for giving us videos and the audio too…it’s great to see and hear the reports. 🙂

  • That burger is made me HUNGRY! Guess what I had for dinner last night?

I am saved the interviews for after work, but Decaf does look like he carried his share of the load and then some.
