Dogs and humans at SP Kennel are training and conditioning for the season ahead.

What’s the plan, you ask?

So far, the only races that we have signed up for are:

  • Aliy has entered the Iditarod
  • Karolyn has entered the Yukon Quest 300

But our Mushing Calendar has several more events highlighted.

  • The final day to sign up for the Yukon Quest is November 29th or January 3rd as a late entry with additional fee penalties. Allen is waiting until November to decide if he will race the Quest again.
  • The deadline to sign up for the Copper Basin 300 is December 1st. Thereafter an additional fee will apply to enter. We could have one or two teams in this race.
  • The Two Rivers Dog Mushing Assoc has several races on their docket this season. Being held on SP Kennel backyard trails, these races are “easy” to enter. They are planning mid distance races in December, January and March.

There is quite a bit of time and a lot of training miles to complete before the races begin. But… that’s over half the fun! We could also use some snow before we RACE!

  • WOOF WOOF WOOF – Thanks for the early report on racing schedule

Wow!!! Go Karolyn!!! (That is one tough race, the YQ300!!!)

Looking forward to the Copper Basin 300, as well!!!

Building up to the Iditarod (Northern Route?) in March…my refresh finger should be ready by then…

    GO SP KENNEL !!!

  • Wishing a safe, healthy and successful racing season to all at SP Kennel! I do really hope that Allen decides to enter the Quest. I’d hate that only 14 of the very deserving canine athletes at SPK might get the opportunity to run in a 1000 mile race this season. Show ‘Em up Commando!!!! ❣❣

  • I’m about the same age as Allen and am slowing down a bit and can certainly see that a 1000 mile race may not sound as much fun as it used to be. I sure hope that a 300 miler or two still captures his competitive interest!

  • Yes! Snow in Alaska would be nice. It seems the lower 48 are getting more than the north in need.

  • Hopefully you will get some snow and be able to use those sleds! I hope Allen does the Quest
but can surely understand as the turn around time for the Iditarod is short. Also, it is a long way
around to get to Whitehorse & Dawson City, Yukon. Go Karolyn in the 300!
