Don’t let the title put you off!

Around this time last year Aliy was involved with filming for this Netflix series that debuts today. We were lucky to get a preview of the episode “Aliy” and it is excellent. It is interesting, informative and amusing, but also very moving at times. We’re excited for you all to see it as it shows the Aliy we know – a true winner and class act for us all to admire.

So, if you are a Netflix subscriber – check it out!

  • Loved Loved this! Just watch the whole 33 min. Could not have been any better. Love you Aliy!

  • We just showed it at our IditaParty…..awesome…very well done!!! Outlaw thought he did a pretty good job too…..this really demonstrated how SPK is a dog first Kennel…..and there is MORE to life than winning! Much more! A must see!

    • The Aliy episode shows a life (lives) that experienced good and bad, as we all have or will. How we handle the good and the bad is what shapes all us into who we are. Aliy has taken what life handed her and used it for good. No doubt she is a good roll model and her transparency in this video has and will encourage others.

Loved seeing Schmoe and beautiful blue-eyed Waylon…and Quito leading the team to Safety. Thanks for the heads up on this series.

  • I have been thinking about this thing called winning lately. It is Iditarod time and following SPK for so many years, there are not only a string of 2nd place finishes, but the experience shown in the Netflix documentary. Each time Aliy lost by so little, I felt disappointment. It’s natural, I suppose. When I see Aliy racing, all I see is excellence and it is odd that the actual “win” has not gone to her.

But, the reason I have been thinking about it is because Aliy is a winner, not a loser. I find myself putting aside the notion of winning as being 1st place in the Iditarod. I think surviving that storm along the coast, passing through the worst of it and working with Quito and her team to stay on the trail is a win. I think having a team (dog and human) good enough to come in second in consecutive years is a win. I think despite emotional anguish of 2016 and the set back of what was sure to be a solid win, to go forward and finish that race in was a win. I think staying on the trail last year when family concerns weighed on her was a win.

Don’t get me wrong. I would be beyond ecstatic to see her come in first, because then no one could see her as anything but the absolutely great musher she is . Because she is one of the greatest mushers the sport has seen, isn’t she. So, yeah, having the trophy and the truck and the yellow flowers around the dogs necks, and the media talking it up big would be nice, wouldn’t it.

But to me, she is already and will always be a winner.

  • Okay, so twice now I have posted a reply to Nessamuk instead of posting a blog comment. Sorry about that! Not sure how I’m doing that LOL! Sometimes technology trips me up 😂

  • Yes, indeed, Aliy is the biggest winner. One of my all-time favorite quotes (and I regret not knowing who said it) is, “Superman wears Aliy Zirkle pajamas.” Aliy, you are my hero. Rooting for you all the way to Nome.
