The team pulled in to Two Rivers checkpoint at 8:32pm having blown through Mile 101 checkpoint.

Allen and the team have their tails up and are absolutely in race mode. They ran up and over Rosebud and into Dos Rios with a run time of 6 hours, 40 minutes. The earliest they can leave is 4:32am.

Two Rivers checkpoint is the final rest before the last leg into the finish line in Fairbanks. Here, teams must stop for eight hours and there is one more mandatory vet exam, an opportunity to give the dogs a huge calorific meal and have the dogs rest hard for the next leg to town.

Allen will also catch some rest – he will be poling and running hard – it’s not over yet! There’s one team in front and two coming up fast behind so there’s some work to do.

Mile 101 / Eagle Summit

Now the handler crew are back in signal range we have a few pics from Mile 101. FYI NOMEX led the team over Eagle Summit!

Allen stopped the team at Mile 101 long enough to snack them and grab some supplies then they went on their way. Check out this pic from the Quest Facebook page – what do you think Chipper and Dutch are saying in swing?

What happens next is the crew and family will go back out to the checkpoint (those that didn’t stay over) to wave them goodbye then we try to find something else to do other than obsessively watch the tracker all the way to Fairbanks.

  • Welcome to your home trails SPK! I know Allen practices this run so I’m sure there will be some extra pep in their step as they motor along after this nice 8 hour rest. We love the pictures from Eagle Summit…such vast country! Putting a dog team in the view really puts it all into perspective! Chipper is asking Dutch if he noticed how helpful she was up over the summit, and if he wants to go steady sometime she is interested!

  • Thank you for the pictures.
The Black Team is moving along great! This is the last part of the race and I hope they win again! Go Black Team!

  • Way to go Nomex! Thanks to Handlers and others who got pictures of the team in action during this race. And thanks for the info passed along from checkpoints. It’s nice to see and hear specifics along the way. I will be getting ready to go to work as Allen and the dogs depart from Two Rivers, but will pull up the tracker once I get there. Go Black Team!

  • They all look happy to go go go… go get’em Allen, you’ve got the finest team out there, show’em off some more!!!!
    Cheers

  • GO SPK! GO ALLEN! GO 4-leggeds!
I can’t watch. I can’t NOT watch. Refresh, refresh, refresh.
Wishing you speed, Black Team, and may the team get turbo charged knowing they’re back in sight of home. Quito and Scruggs, if you’re still in lead, move that team fast down the trail, safely to the finish. Oh, and please do it faster than any other teams – ha! 🙂 Seriously, what a great race so far. Congratulations to all of the teams out there making their way towards Fairbanks. Safe travels.
Thanks again to the SPK team who keeps us updated.

  • Fantastic looking team, rearing to go. Allen looks more relaxed in picture with Aliy. Rest and mush on to Fairbanks. What a close race with 4 teams with a chance! Go SPK.

  • Chipper is saying, “Watch this. We’re gonna blow through Mile 101!”
Nomex is saying, “Look at me Momma, I’m just like you!”
