Aliy took several short videos during her nine days on the Iditarod trail. There are about 20 in the series, many are quite short but we thought you would enjoy them over the next few weeks.
In this video, the dog team is travelling over the Portage Trail between Kaltag and Unalakleet. “Mountains in the mist”, Aliy says. There are many low clouds in the video with what appears to be much moisture. There is already plenty of brilliant white snow covering the trail but Mother Nature seems to be taunting the team with even more!

Beautiful! I think this is my favorite so far this year. It might be because you finally have a trail that isn’t blown in or maybe because it shows the sharp contrast from what my mind has imagined on this portion of the trail. I stand corrected, ha ha.
In any case thank God it isn’t like two years ago! I wish that had never happened.

This portion of trail has been used for hundreds of years….connecting the interior to the coast….must feel so cool trekking through the portage by dog team as many generations have done before you. Simply Gorgeous!
