Just when you thought race season was over… Jeff is taking a team of nine to the Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race!

The Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race began back in 1977 as a way to honour the legendary Percy DeWolfe, who carried mail by dog team, horse and boat between Dawson City, YT and Eagle, AK, from 1910 and 1949.

The Percy starts in Dawson City, Yukon on Thursday, March 22nd and teams run down the Yukon River to Eagle, Alaska, turn around and run back up river to Dawson. The race is 210 miles (338 km) and there is a minimum mandatory six hour layover in Eagle, plus an additional two hours in either Fortymile or Eagle.

The race has a great website where you can find a GPS tracker, links to race history and rules. You can also follow their Facebook page which will have updates through the race.

We will let you know which nine lucky dogs get to go once the roster has been finalised.

Jeff’s wife Jeri will be handling for the team but as neither of the checkpoints are on the road system there will be limited opportunity for her to bring us any news. We’ll get you what information we can.

Woohoo! I hope you’ve been resting that refresh finger!

  • Oh, happy day! I’ve been going through withdrawal (and I’m sure I’m not the only one). Go, Jeff and Pups!! (Here’s hoping Allen has recovered….)

  • Thank goodness I have puppies to follow it is always empty after the Iditarod is over. I live in Nevada and news about dog mushing is slim so will follow this race. Thanks for letting us know

  • I love the Percy De”WOOF” – I recall SP Kennel entered this some years ago (ans I purchased a hat)!!!

    GO JEFF!!!
    GO JERI!!!

  • Yay! I’m a big mushing fan and follow all the races. But I enjoy them a kazillion times more if there is an SPK team to cheer for! The Percy looks like a fun race to cap the year off with for Jeff.
So who is going to go out to race in the Kobuk 440?? LOL – I’m sure that flying back out to Western Alaska is the last thing on your to-do list.
By the way – did you know that if you go to Google streetview for Nome, and drag the little yellow man to go along Front St…. the video was taken during the Iditarod. And if you just keep on going right into the chute – there’s an SPK team! I think it is Allen (from last year or a few years ago) since I see his green snowshoes. So cool! Even Google streetview knows which is the BEST team to capture.
I’ve said it already, but I’ll say it again – thank you so much for all the hard work that your team puts into allowing us fans to follow along with all your adventures. SPK is head and shoulders above all others and you have my utmost respect and admiration.

  • This is awesome for Jeff and Jeri.
Be sure to request your report card up front Jeff. 😉
Who knows what weather the team will meet. I hope they are all ready for the challenge.
What an unexpectedly exciting weekend this will be.
Thank you for the awesome links…. bookmark!
Thank you SPK for bringing us down easy from our Iditarod high, lol.
    🙂
    Hugs to all!

  • Will be following Jeff on the race. Thankfully we have another one to use the finger again.
Wondering who the lucky dogs are. I’m sure Allen has some tips for you. Go Jeff & Jeri!

  • What a wonderful tribute. There is so much more information available after the Iditarod. Thank you for all the information and updates.

  • I thought I saw Jeffs picture in the Musher section of the website yesterday, but didn’t recognize the dog in his arms so I didn’t give it another thought! It was Jeff of SPK!! Yahoo….another race to watch!

  • So exciting!! I’m glad the racing season is not over just yet. I will for certain be using the GPS tracker. GO JEFF and PUPS!!! Can’t wait to see the team roster!

  • My suggestion is to make the Percy DeWolfe all about Miss “O”! Have Jeff race Queen Olivia (who can still strut her stuff) ,Violet, Amber, Barista, Chena, Creamer, Bean, Junior and Lydia. Olivia and her progeny could memorialize the mail race. “Miss O Delivers”– mail and pups!!!! 😊
