Our dogs love people: they like sitting in laps, they like giving kisses and they like getting their ears scratched. BUT, they love to run – first and foremost. Never is this more evident than during the Idiatrod Ceremonial Start! There are crowds of people only feet (and in some cases, inches) away from the sled, cheering and clapping but you will see from the video, they just keep going… Good dogs!

And, like any rockstar, Aliy did have a change of wardrobe part way through. As we visited the Matson hotdog stand she wore her new parka as a thank you. She changed back to her traditional red soon after though!

Hope you enjoy this ride-along.

PS Because I (Moira) carry a hand held video camera rather than a GoPro there is no footage of my spill on the corner of 4th and Cordova, although I’m sure someone captured it! Send it my way if you see any – it was pretty funny!

  • Awesome video Moira. Thanks for the wonderful work you do to keep us informed. Liked the change of parkas. Aliy, good luck on the trail. May the wind be at your back. Godspeed.

  • Great video, Moira! Thanks for sharing it. I agree that this is Aliy’ s year!! # 31 will be #1!! #bestrace #bestsport #favouriteathletes #AliyZirkle #SPKDogs #Nacho #thelegend

  • Thanks for sharing this! It looks like so much fun. I loved the comment from the guy who told Aliy that she’s almost to the finish. lol.

  • I actually liked your video better. Because you had a hand-held camera, you got more of Aliy and the people and it wasn’t as shaky. But I do appreciate videos of both rides. Thank you.
