Some photos and video from today’s Ceremonial Start for Allen’s Black Team.

A bunch of Allen’s two year olds have not seen this trail, nor experienced anything anywhere near like what they experienced today. They all do so well to cope with the excitement, noise and people. For long distance sled dogs used to wilderness travel it is a big ask for them to mush through crowds of people but they all did themselves and us proud.

With Iditarider Jeff Watanabe of Matson
Amber’s ready!

Jeff wore a GoPro (thanks Verizon) for the run and captured the range of trails and conditions. From crowds of people on main streets to quiet, snowy trails.

  • Awesome!
    Beautiful ceremonial start.
The next time Allen stops and then asks if they are ready, I expect he will be on the runners, lol.
Thank you Jeff, Verizon and Moira for giving us the ride with Allen through the go pro.
I can’t imagine what Jeff was feeling taking this ride. I’m so happy for you Jeff.
    Wonderful!
    Thank you SPK!

  • Thank you to all the awesome handlers who helped get both teams on the trail today, and who will get both teams to the start tomorrow. I hope you are all getting some rest tonight.

  • Fantastic video and Thanks to the SP Crew for getting them off and running!
Now Allen will do his magic on the trail with the young ones. The experience
with be invaluable. SP dogs are so well mannered it is a real testament to Allen
