Congratulations Lester!

Congratulations to Lester!

This past April, Yo-Lynn Owlsey came on our Mushing Adventure Trip in Nome for her first winter camping experience. It was during this trip that Yo-Lynn fell in love with another camping “first-timer”….. little Lester. Lester had a tough time sleeping without his doghouse, and Yo-Lynn could relate the first few nights in the Arctic Oven Tent. Lester might be overlooked with his slight build and quiet demeanor, but he stood out to Yo-Lynn.

Thank you Yo-Lynn for sponsoring Lester during his 2010-2011 racing season! With his drive and focus even as a two-year-old, we know he’ll go far.

Copper Basin Trail Interview with Allen Moore: Part One

In less than one week, three SP Kennel teams will be competing in the Copper Basin 300. This year’s race route is slightly different from previous years, beginning at Paxson Lodge and continuing clockwise through Chistochina, Glennallen, Tolsona, Wolverine Lodge, Sourdough, Meier’s Lake, and returning to Paxson Lodge. The racers are not required to rest at each checkpoint, but over the course of the race they must accumulate 18 hours of rest, one of which is eight hours long. Due to the flexibility of the rests and the various distances between checkpoints, a lot of strategy goes into where and when to rest.

Paxson to Chistochina- 60 miles
Chistochina to Glennallen- 52 miles
Glennallen to Tolsona- 30 miles
Tolsona to Wolverine- 27 miles
Wolverine to Sourdough- 62 miles
Sourdough to Meiers Lake- 40 miles
Meiers Lake to Paxson Lodge finish- 18 miles

Since Allen knows the trail backwards, forwards, and upside down, I decided to ask him for a general overview of the trail. Rookies–take notes.

Congratulations Nacho!

Congratulations to Nacho!

In Spring 2009, Jan joined us on our Mushing Adventure Trip through the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It was on this particular trip that Jan met the charismatic Nacho.

Nacho is the perfect SP Kennel dog – his spunk and enthusiasm, even when temperatures dip to -45 make him an instant favorite to all!
Jan decided to sponsor Nacho’s racing this season. Why not sponsor the actual dog on the SP Kennel Logo?
Thank you Jan for supporting Nacho’s racing career and being a part of the SP Kennel dog sponsorship program!
