Got wifi? The crew do!
We have some pics and video through from John and Lisa and other friends at the checkpoint.
Karolyn is really happy to be finished! Their official arrival time was 2:40pm. Quite rightly she is feeling good about it all but delighted to not still be on Birch Creek. I think she will be dreaming about it for days to come!
Her brother Johnny was volunteering at the checkpoint and was able to officially check her in. A lovely family moment.
Karolyn said of that final Birch Creek leg: I kept thinking we were near the end of the creek and started singing to the dogs “this is the trail that never ends, we’re never getting off this creek my friends” and then we passed a particular camping spot I remembered from the way out where the musher had taken their axe to the driftwood around it to build an actual real fire and I was like “oh my god, we’re here!”
We’ll get more stories and details from Karolyn in the next few days. She will get a good sleep tonight and then will start reflecting on her race. She said she was already working on her dog-by-dog wrap up in her head to share with you.
Lisa said she accidentally hit ‘slow motion’ when filming the team’s arrival but it’s pretty cool to see it that way.
You’ll see little Bronze hitched a lift to the finish line in the sled. Karolyn said she was just simply tired. She worked really hard but needed to do the last few miles in the bag. The vets checked her over and gave her an all clear, only prescribing some sleep.
Congrats to Karolyn and her awesome Team of SPK athletes!!! Job well done….SO proud!! Looking forward to the wrap up! Enjoy the sleep and warmth of being inside!
Congratulations Karolyn and your awesome team! A job well done! It is so great that your brother got to check you in! LOL Faff is making himself at home in the truck! The slo-mo video was great….seeing every step of their gait. Get some rest Bronze! And Karolyn too. So proud of this entire team!
The slow motion road crossing was excellent! If anyone wants to see how well structured dogs move at a trot…after racing for 300 miles, this is your chance! Congratulations to Karolyn and the team for finishing this race.
Bronze looks so cute peaking out of the bag.
That’s a pretty sweat Kodiak photo bomb in Karolyn’s leader pic.
😉
Lisa, I thoroughly enjoyed the slow mo arrival. I usually pause the video to see the faces of the dogs, but you gave it all to us!: Junior and Mismo observant leaders spotting you right away, Cloud looking so proud of herself up in swing, Sanka’s extra peppy jump for joy. Every single dog looks so healthy, happy and to see you. They all gave a nice face shot for your camera. If Peach wasn’t on the line, she looks like she would have run right to you, maybe Iron too!
Congratulations Karolyn for an awesome race. I’m sure this will be one of your greatest memories. I hope you, your teammates and your crew are getting some much deserved rest.
Congrats Karolyn! Proud moment on some dang hard work. And the slow mo action was awesome! Finishes are always such a flash in the pan of the mushers days of work and armchair mushers only get these fleeting moments to see the team! Thank you all for the updates.
WooHoo!!! Way to go Karolyn and team!!! Love that smile on your face!!!
I should really get over hating being overloaded with posts on FB so I could give THUMBS UP.
But here it is – THUMBS UP – CONGRATULATIONS – SMILEY FACE.
YAY!
Congrats Karolyn! The slow motion was wonderful to see all the dogs in their glory! Bronze looked so cute with the head out off the bag–how precious!! Great Job!! Proud of you! My winter neighbor is from N.H. also!
I am impressed by your stamina and dedication to your beautiful dogs. It looks soo cold there.
