Today was the day… the party is over. It is not longer particularly smart and certainly not dry to run a dog team on a sled from our kennel in Two Rivers anymore this season. After taking 14 dogs out on a sled for a rather icy and adventurous tour of puddles, bare ground and two feet of overflow in the wee hours of the morning, we have decided: No More.

While this is sad, it is also good timing since twelve of the dogs are heading to Kotzebue with Bridgett in a day and twenty more are going with Aliy, Allen, Moira and our friend Vern to the North Slope the following day. The first group drives south to Anchorage, loads onto a jet and flies across the state to the western village. The second group drives north, up the Dalton Highway (along the TransAlaska Oil Pipeline) about 10 hours to the north side of the Brooks Range Mountains. I am sure that we will share both of these adventures with you when we return.

For now, here is the evidence that sled mushing is now over at SPK!

  • Thank you for sharing the video. It is sad that there will be no more sled runs around Two Rivers for the season but I am excited to hear about the Kobuk race and the adventure to the North Slope. I hope the teams have an exciting adventure and I can’t wait to hear how the trips went!

  • Bummer…its so odd you folks got spring weather before us in the Adirondacks! But at least you can look forward to some snow and new scenery on your trip north….sounds FUN! Outlaw, Chemo and the rest of little Team Adirondack will enjoy our home trails a bit longer…still 15 inches of packed snow on the groomed trails and 2′ of ice on the lakes to continue ice fishing, wish we could have sent some of that your way through the season….climates seem a bit flip flopped this year.
SO excited to watch the Kobuk Race, Im assuming they must have more snow out that way than you all have……go Bridgett!

  • Have fun and be careful on these two adventures. Can’t wait to hear why you go on these type of trips… (more snow)?.

  • This has to be sad yet good at the same time. Everyone will head off to continue having fun with the dogs while the melt continues at home. On to the next adventure.
    Safe travels to all.

  • Spring has arrived in Two Rivers. 🙁 🙂
I hope you and the dogs all enjoy your adventures.
I can hardly wait to see pics when you get back.
My net is having issues, so I’ll try to watch that video later.
    Thanks for keeping us posted.

  • WOOF WOOF WOOF

    Awesome and intrepid!!!

    Awesome!!!

Wet boots, booties and a game bunch – 2 and 4 legged mushing athletes!!!

“The Party’s Over” at Two Rivers indeed. But not yet for all of us at home following your exploits!!!

Thanks so very much in advance for news of the extra Kobuk 400 in fast company, too (twice as long as a 200 mile race) and North Slope adventure 2019!!!

    WOOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am amazed at how smart the dogs are to head for the snowiest part of the trail whenever there is a choice!
