Right on time at 2:46am, Aliy and all 14 team mates pulled out of Iditarod after their 24 hour break. You’ll see on the standings she now has the first ‘mandatory rest’ green tick next to her name. Once everyone has two green ticks then we will really know who is winning!

Obviously what ever caused Bruno to ride for half a mile was not anything significant. Yay!

Don Dowers Jnr says: “There are no real problems on this leg—just the hills. The trail leaves Iditarod heading downstream (north) on the Iditarod River for a few miles and then turns west and begins to climb over an endless series of ridges before finally dropping down into the broad valley of the Innoko River, on which Shageluk is located.

Ahead the mighty Yukon! Be safe, run fast!

  • So glad Bruno got to continue! Maybe he was just frustrated with the last section of trail …at least there is snow the way they are headed now! Also glad the dogs are all handling the warm temps too…fingers crossed for snow rather than rain coming up! Run dogs run!

  • GO RED TEAM!!!

Awesome performance and we switched to blue under our SP Kennel hoodie to be in sync with alternate musher outfit.

Bruno jumping out of his zipped-up bag was a hoot at Iditarod – on to the Might Yukon indeed!!!

    WOOF WOOF WOOF

  • Good Morning Aliy and Team .. hoping you and the Team are well rested and ready for another a great run today.
Stay safe and be strong!! 🙂 <3

  • Good Luck to Aliy and team mates! Rested and ready to rumble down the trail! Go Girl!!

  • Have been following the Iditarod from CT for years now and you are the main reason I have stayed onboard, Aliy. To me you exemplify the true spirit of the Iditarod and sled dog racing. And I want to see you cross that finish line first one of these years!!! Hope to be able to visit your kennel on one of my trips to Alaska.

  • I am wondering if she is following Joar’s lead and taking mandatory 8 hours there. Only he has done so up to this point.

Still an interesting race to watch despite the difficulties she faced on the trail to Iditarod. I was watching Joar go through the tussocks that the checker asked about when Aliy arrived. I saw a circle around one of the markers from the overhead shot and wondered if that was the circle Aliy talked about.

I feel very positive about the team and the future of SPK

  • Into Shageluk with 15 team members! Woohoo, awesome work Aliy!
After the tough run Aliy had to Iditarod, we need to celebrate the amazing run she just had to Shageluk. She ran that stretch over an hour faster than five of the teams that left Iditarod before her and faster than the thirteen other teams that have arrived in Shageluk so far, with 14 teammates!!!
I hope her team’s perkiness sticks all the way to her mandatory eight.
Thank you for the update Moira!

  • I was just looking at times for enroute to Shageluk – Aliy had the fastest time at 7hr 11 minutes of those who have not yet posted times to Anvik. I gather the others are taking 8 hours there since Richie, the earliest arrival, arrived at 5:28 and is still resting, but this bodes well.

She will need to do 8 hours somewhere, which means these folks can catch up, of course, but she is good on the river and it is likely to blow out there, slowing some down. I think she and her team are in good physical shape and that makes me happy.

  • … Hmmm
    ..
In fact, she had the fastest time from Iditarod to Shageluk!

    Yay!

  • Keep up the good race, Aliy! We are all cheering for you and I know you can win!
Now that you have just finished your 24 hour rest, I know you and your dogs can run with the wind!
    GO, ALIY!!! You’re doing amazing!

  • 🙂 🙂 🙂
Aliy out of Anvik, and on her was to find the Cattaneo Brothers in Grayling!

Welcome to the Yukon River Aliy, Amber, Bruno, Commando, Dutch, Decaf, Five, Driver, Jefe, Mismo, Nomex, Rodney, QT, Spark and Violet
    Woohoo!
    Go Aliy!

    • “way” not “was”
I can barely handle a keyboard on the lack of sleep.
I’m in awe of Aliy’s handling of her team with so little rest!
