While everyone has been concentrating on the racing season, Quito and Clyde’s pups have been growing up fast! Right now, they are almost 8 months old and ready to take on the world. Here is a quick overview of each.
Gold is just as stout as his dad, with a nice thick golden coat to match. He is going to be pretty big, and already weighs more than some of our smaller adults. With his endless confidence and energy, I can’t wait to see him run on a team.
Prada is a sassy little ball of fuzz. When she isn’t growling at her brother, she is jumping around telling everyone how great she is. Like her half sister Chipper, her attitude is much bigger than her body. It might take some time to teach her about teamwork, but she has no shortage of enthusiasm. She has been a lot of fun to work with!
Bronze is a bit more shy and reserved than her brother and sister, but she has a beautiful long body. She probably has the best build of the three, and has proven herself to be intelligent and aware. It is hard to tell how a pup will act on a team, but Bronze has the potential to be a fast and reliable lead dog.
At this point, we have given each pup a couple walks in harness, and they immediately figured out the basics. Although they haven’t been out on a team yet, they have been watching the adults run for months and get very excited whenever we come near them with a harness. Right now, we are planning to start running them on a team as soon as we get back from Nome. Puppies are a whole lot of fun to train, and these three have an incredible amount of energy. The hard part is keeping that energy pointed in the right direction.
I can’t wait to see what they can do!

AHHHH PUPPIES!!!! Big Puppies but PUPPIES!!! Nothing makes ya smile more than seeing some SPK puppies energetic and ready to be real sled dogs!!! They are all so gorgeous….sounds like you are going to have your hands full with some sassyness….but I think SPK likes the sassy females. Lets get this race done and in the books so we can see puppies in harness!!!
Always nice to have something to look forward to as we all head into race withdrawls after the season is over!
Adorable!
Adorable!
Giving my refresh finger a rest, they have grown sooo much. Winners for sure. Thanks for the post.
So great to see SPK's future hard at play. A refreshing post after watching the tracker and ID videos for 8 days. You can really see how big Gold is in the picture of him with Bronze. Thanks for sharing the pics of these three beauties.
Wow–they have grown up so much. Am excited to see them in harness!
Can see Clyde and Quito in them–born to be winners!
Thanks for sharing.
Aw! Thank you Chris these pictures are precious and hilarious!
Aliy's resting in Koyuk, and Allen is resting in Unalakleet, what better time to have some fun with pups.
There are always exciting years head for SPK.
🙂
Chris, thanks! You're an amazing addition to the team.
Thanks so much for the update on the "medal" pups Chris! Iditarod can understandably be all-consuming and the posts on it are terrific, but it's also great for us to get news about the normal goings on of the kennel. You are so lucky to be able to see and help these future superstars develop.
They are beautiful! Looking forward to their progress.
What gorgeous pups. Growing like weeds. Thanks, Chris for puppy training. Prata has been a bit sassy from the beginning!
