I have carried a hand held video camera on the race for years now. Honestly, I don’t always think “Gez, this is gorgeous… I need to take a video!” But, I really did try to capture some amazing portions of the Iditarod Trail this year.

This is a rough ride and you might get dizzy from all the pounding. I guess this goes to show you that not all of the 1,000 mile route is smooth and straight. The fact that there is little snow cover is not surprising. This section of the trail is in Interior Alaska and, after training in Two Rivers all winter, we knew the Interior snow conditions were sparse. While certainly enough to mush a dog team, the snow is not enough to cushion my sled (bang! bang!) or cover all of the vegatation and tussocks.

The team looks beautiful, "15 strong" and they are dipping a lot because I suppose the daytime sun makes it even a bit warmer…
This is such a sensitively recorded video – the time of day falls perfectly for recording – the shadow of the Red Team musher and Aliy's voice as one; each clang of the sled over moguls (need springs?)as the blue of sky and trees make an advertisement for Alaska!!!

Ah yes….moguls…I remember hearing this section of trail was a bit tedious and difficult to build momentum with the constant up and down motion of the sled tugging at the gangline. Even though it wasnt at breakneck speed they are motoring right along down the trail…15 strong dogs nearing the halfway point!! Thanks again for sharing the trail with us…these are GREAT videos of interior Alaska!

It must be frustrating to have the pressure on the line constantly changing from the ups and downs.
Despite the perception that your team of 15 wasn't traveling as fast as you might expect, you left Cripple over two hours ahead of Dallas, widening the lead of almost two hours you had over him going into Takotna. Good Dogs, good job Aliy. Wooop woooop!

The smudge on the camera is like the smudge on my glasses. I finally wiped my glasses and realized your camera was nearly as bad as I thought!
The speed of a dog sled seems to be about the right pace to travel through Alaska, I am thinking.
What a bouncing ride. You need shock absorbers for sections of the trail like this. Team & you are doing great .Thanks for taking us on the journey.
