Remember back in February when Aliy’s YQ300 team were at vet checks in Whitehorse and we mentioned that Aliy and Mismo were interviewed for local station NorthWestTel Community TV‘s “The Dog Show”? The show recently went to air so check it out below. There’s lots of shots of the team at the start line also.

Make sure you stay on for YQ Head Veterinarian Nina Hansen’s interview. It’s really interesting AND Nelson, Dutch, Beemer and Mismo make cameo appearances!

  • Woof, woof, woof!!!

    Mismo in Whitehorse!!!

Excellent behavior or was he just trying to impress the show host?

Aliy did a great job explaining so many things – even in this short interview!!!

  • Good dogs!! Great interview! Mismo's humble beginnings…..now an accomplished 1,000 mile sled dog racer!! Oh how time flies!! I'm already looking forward to next season when the Fire Litter will undoubtedly make a huge impression! SO much talent at SP Kennel!

  • What an enjoyable show. Nice. Thanks for sharing.

Besides Cha Cha who are the other retired dogs living inside?

  • Ditto – watched it all the way through this time – howling champ might try out for racing (looks like Happy)!!!!

  • I never realized how much each team member gets handled by different people and how well it seems they cope. Poked, prodded, and body parts manipulated… I know how much I dislike my yearly physical evaluation and marvel at how well these dogs cope with the vet checks and attention before, after and during the races. I wonder if there are any who don't deal with the handling as well as their teammates and is a nip or bite par for the course?

  • Thank you, Aliy ! I learned quite a bit from this interesting interview–primarily about booties freezing ( duh?) when they were taken off. Also interesting that, in addition to the sled dogs, Aliy has a lab at home for her personal pet. Must be a long, long couch for those five retired dogs to share ! Thanks for posting.

  • Last night ChaCha, Bullet, Tony, Rambler and Tig "shared" the House with Aliy and Allen. Beemer and Viper have been coming in for morning coffee. Nutmeg pokes her head inside now and then. And Quito has been hanging out on the house deck during the morning.

  • ChaCha's "Car Litter" (Viper, Beemer, Rambler – b. 2007) taking the measure of the couch, or as they might call it, "the garage?"

  • Regarding, "last night," I'm contemplating the morning conversation amongst the dogs…
Quito, "You all look pretty cozy and laid back in there."
ChaCha, "Yep, It's a pretty nice life. Do you think you're ready to hang up the booties and join us?"
Quito, "I don't know about that!"
Bullet, "Maybe you would like to run some youngsters to Nome."
Quito, "I'll let Chica run the pups. I don't have the patience."
Rambler, "I'ld sure like to run the young 'uns, darn dermatitis."
    Tony, "Ah, the memories."

  • Great interview. Lots of insight on dog treats and how they are tested. Of course Aliy is always informative and explains things in a down to earth way. Thanks SPKennel Crew for the information in the retired dogs. I recorded the Iditarod Unleashed on the sportsman channel probably a month ago and just watched most of it this afternoon. The red team was shown quite a bit, and the black team once at either the ceremonial start or the restart. I loved it all over again.
