Right now, the Black Team is resting in Elim. They had a good run through from Koyuk and Allen will be happy to be in Elim.
Read here some more information about the conditions the mushers faced on the run from Shaktoolik to Koyuk. It sounds like it was a wild night and we are thankful everyone is safe now.
Their next run will be to White Mountain some 46-odd miles away. They pass through Golovin which, although not an official checkpoint, can be used as a rest stop if necessary. Once in White Mountain the team has a mandatory eight hour rest before embarking on the final leg home to Nome.

What a great team – and Allen still runs 14 musketeers – each one a special heroe. Thank you for showing such exemplary dog are and racing spirit. Yeah for the black team.

Glad he is safe. I saw him and so many other mushers stop. Figured it had to be the weather. Hope he and every musher ahead and behind him will make it to Nome.

I think this next section of trail Allen typically starts pushing the Team a little bit more to see how they handle some real racing. Ill say it again,what an awesome job Allen has in the Iditarod….seeing the youngsters learn and grow into great SP Kennel racing sled dogs!

My instincts told me something was wrong as I am sure many others suspected. I first noted this to the iditaguys and when there was.no on screen reply from them, I called headquarters to have someone check on them. They were both simply stationary far too long In my opinion. Headquarters reassured me must be gps error as mushers are self sufficient. I figured supies and food must be running out. I kept flipping back between weather screens at 4 am to observe wind conditions. Could not light a fire and keep it going with that wind. Hope they and the dogs are all ok. Things could have turned out really very bad for the entire race and I feel grateful Bryan had batteries and good wits remaining with all that cold to change them. Headquarters s indicated there was no one in Koyuk to go out and check, just fans. Perhaps I should have called back and insisted they do something! I am obsessively glued to that screen for the most part when the race is running so easily noted the abnormality.

This year has been another year of on the edge of the seat viewing..After reading of the difficulties along the Sound, I am again, relieved to see one of my fav mushers and team, safe and sound. Home safe Allen.
