This morning Aliy and Moira, with the help from long-time kennel friends (and dog lot volunteers) Deb and Hunter Davis, packed the dogs up and sent them on their way to Anchorage where Allen and Spencer were there waiting for them.

The old-hands (paws?) were very relaxed about the whole process whereas the yahoos were very excited and interested in what was going on.

The crew at Everts Cargo (right) are very experienced and attentive and we can be sure they are in safe hands. They wrap the kennels securely, weight their cargo then carefully load them into the airplane for the short flight to Anchorage.

Our dog truck is in Anchorage waiting for us and tomorrow we’ll head up the Parks Highway home to Fairbanks.

All aboard; waiting for the flight

How many faces can you recognise?; Thanks Deb and Hunter

Thanks also to Kamey and Curtis for the loan of their vehicles to get the dogs to the airport.

  • Thanks so much for this post!

For the young dogs this must have been the first time they were up in a plane!!!

Even more to tell their fellow SP Kennel friends who didn't get to go on Iditarod this year!

Temperature are rising a bit in CT, although the snow still covers our town!

    Best,

    Margaret

  • Wow, an amazing undertaking for everyone involved. You guys really pull off an amazing event. Have a safe trip back, you are probably already on your way and in Anchorage because is is 6:20 here in California.

It will be good to finally sleep in your own bed soon! Yet so much work to do once you guys get back home.

    Best, Trish McAleer

  • The new adventures for the yahoos keep on coming. They will have lots to share with their kennel mates. Aliy, it seems you are a little bit cramped at the steering wheel. Thanks for the pictures and update.

  • Is that Queen Quito, Chica and Biscuit in the truck with momma Aliy? I see Chipper's cute face! And paws and a muzzle that can belong to Waylon, Willie or Clyde. And maybe Boonie and Scrugs? I spy is fun! Safe travels, everyone!

  • Have a happy safe journey home SP kennel doggies and staff another whole year to wait though I think my golden retriever DENALI will enjoy my focus being back on him 😄🐾🐾 .
I have discussed it with my goldie oh and husband and I am saving up from now to become not a blog supporter but with one less hot chocolate and one less doggie biscuit we won't to increase our support to Aliy and Allen and their wonderful neighbour Ryno kennels ….how many days to next years dog mushing season ? Cheers from Melbourne , Australia.

  • Wow…..the logistics of what a kennel has to do to run this race….drive to Anchorage, drive back to Fairbanks, mush 1,000 miles to Nome…..fly back to Anchorage and drive home to Two Rivers. That's a lot of traveling in 2.5 weeks!, You all certainly deserve a well rested vacation at home after this! Safe travels!

  • The pups look so cute and so safe in their crates!!! Not long now for everybody to be home safe and to take a well deserved rest!!! Safe travels! ✈️🚗

  • Cool. Thanks for the help….and the post, today I realized how much I've been checking the blog for updates. 🙂

  • For those who think it is all over 'til next racing season…maybe, yes, no hitting refresh on the GPS tracker – but…

Upcoming is the Spring and Summer in Alaska, with almost 24 hrs of daylight at the Solstice, a more (MUCH) low-key website that focuses on the wonderful 4-legged SPK folks at play!

  • Was that actually Commando in Mom's lap (the tag says "57" which was the Black Team starting number)?

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I wondered how the dogs got back home and was hoping they didn't have to mush back. I've really enjoyed all of the blog posts and info, and I'm looking forward to rooting for you next year! — new Iditarod fan in California
