Two Rivers Dog Mushing Association postponed the 100/50 Mile Solstice Race and re-scheduled it for this weekend, Saturday January 3rd. Here is the race INFO.
As many of you know, our goal at SP Kennel is to race as many dogs as possible throughout the season: giving the younger dogs and older dogs alike a chance to enjoy the competition and to prove themselves in a race atmosphere. The 100/50 Mile Solstice Race will be a smaller, neighborhood event on our local trails.
However, our training is much more specific than most people think. Throughout the season, we specifically schedule mileage build ups, hill training and we ‘peak’ our dogs for target “race dates”. As well, different strategies are needed for different races: the 100/50 Mile Solstice Race is a fast, flat and mentally challenging (to pass the kennel numerous times). The Copper Basin 300 (in one week) is a slower, extremely mountainous, tough race course.
The reschedule of the 100/50 Mile Solstice Race fits perfectly into the schedule for many of the yearlings, a few dogs who need a fun short race and several dedicated older leaders. This new race date does not fit for either Allen or Aliy’s potential Copper Basin Teams. This is a shame since we (and the dogs) enjoy our local races.
Aliy will race the SP Kennel Red Team in the 50 Mile Solstice Race and Spencer will race the SP Kennel Red & Black Team in the 100 Mile Solstice Race.
AWESOME PLAN!!!
Spencer's R&B squad should be very competitive – known winners and up and comers, too! Woof, woof!!!
And what a privilege for the Yearlings to race for the Red Team at a distance they might very well be up for!!!
Go Red Team!! Enjoy!!
Glad to hear the race is still on….I have been watching the weather up there and wasn't sure if you all had enough snow to race on. Good to hear the race is going forward and you got a few teams ready to go!! I like the approach of giving the youngsters some exposure while also giving the older Veterans a thrill of a race! Happy Trails to all!!
Hope Aliy and the Red Team have lots of fun and good, timely practice for the future races!!!
Once again, you are showing good planning AND love for your pups and enjoying the element of fun and conditioning on your dogs!!!
Best on the race! 🐾🐾🌠❤️❤️💖💚💙💛💗❤️💖🐾🐾🐾
OH BOY! Does that mean Lydia will be pulling Aliy?
I'm already having visions of Lydia's uncontrollable excitement at the thought of another race.
Woop woop 🙂
Am glad you have two teams running in the race Best of luck in the 50 & 100 mile races. Looking forward to seeing which wonderful dogs get to race. Go SPK.
