We need to thank Ryne and Derek for putting on the race and Lauri Lenahan for sponsoring the race. Here is a photo that Ryne took 10 minutes after the start. She was in the lead of the eight dog team race and it was a gorgeous afternoon!

The final times for the Two Rivers Fun Race were rather subjective since each musher recorded their own finish time (some remembered to look at their watch and others didn’t.)
Aliy finished at 1:27AM
Ryne finished somewhere between 1:29AM and 1:33AM (depending on who’s watch you go by)
Sebastain finished at 1:34AM (after circling Pleasant Valley Store twice as well as the local Laundromat. Either he forgot to pick up his mail or his dogs thought he needed a shower.)
Allen finished at 1:45AM
Spencer finished at about 2:30AM
Joanna finished at about 2:30 and 30 seconds AM
Jon finished at about 2:40AM
Riley finished as well!

When you have a “fun race” in the most competitive dog mushing neighborhood in the world it’s really, really entertaining! There was no entrance fee and no rigid rules, but the atmosphere was competitive and even the sleeping bag Mass Start was pretty intense!

  • Loved it! I think Allen had Aliy by just a hair but like a true Southern gentleman from Arkansas, he let ladies go first.

  • That was awesome! Aily and Allen racing off together! Did anyone else see the gentleman back off a hair and let the lady take lead? I might just be imagining it! Lol. What fun!

    I agree with Cheryl, Allen was quite polite on the start. At least one of Aliy's dogs, however, looked like it was ready to take off with just her 🙂

    Congratulations to everyone who participated in this tiny, however extremely elite test of mushing skills.
    Hope all the four legged athletes who rested at home are doing well too.

  • Thanks for posting pix & video. Sounds like a great time was had by all. Could this become an annual event? The Two Rivers Neighborhood Race? The rules sound basic & oh so logical. The sleeping bag start was a great idea. I was happy to sponsor the race purse. If it is done again next year, just contact me.
