We have heard word about the two dropped dogs from Allen’s team. They’re both doing just fine.
SCOOTER was dropped in Rohn with a sore shoulder. She is one of those dogs that tries really hard all of the time and on the hard, fast trail developed some soreness. Allen decided, in her best interests, to leave her behind. We were able to pick her up from the Millennium Hotel this afternoon and she’s happy to be with us after having had a great adventure riding in a couple of planes and meeting lots of new people along the way.
BORIS was dropped in McGrath, he was a bit dehydrated and just not feeling 100%. He hasn’t quite made his way back to us here yet but hopefully we will see him soon.
Allen will be disappointed to lose them both; he was excited to take Boris on his first trip to Nome. Boris has had a great training season and really deserved his place on the team. He ran in Meghan’s Copper Basin 300 team and her Solstice 100 team this season. He is a big dog with a thick coat who tries hard but can sometimes overheat in the warmer conditions. We look forward to seeing him and giving him a big hug when he gets here.
Scooter is one of Allen’s favorite dogs and was one of the first on his list so he’ll be sorry to have had to leave her behind. She is the cheerleader of the team and is always happy. She ran in Aliy’s champion Yukon Quest 300 team this season!

Thanks for your patience as we got this information.
Aw Scooter and Boris. Nice work this season! The warm dry conditions can be hard on canine team members too.
Boris will need a meeting with his brother Mac to discuss hydration and eating for the long runs, when Mac gets back from Nome.
I imagine the teams enjoyed seeing each other in Takotna.
Thanks so much for your report on the Black Team dropped dog situation – this was a great accomplishment to make Allen's team, and Boris should be so proud!
Scooter is a wonderful dog, and this was, no pun intended, rough sledding in Iditarod XLII. Scooter can watch the tracker and cheer on SP Kennel for the rest of the race. Woof, woof, woof!!!
Well, Dang. I was really hoping Boris would make the big trip to Nome this year too.
Cutter has not pestered me today as I watch the race .. shrug .. do they know these things?
That's alright! Great run, Scooter and Boris! Hang in there, Allen!
Kelly, Martin and Hugh…
Keep up your awesome work Aliy and Red Team!
You can hang on and over take them all.
Glad to know Scooter and Boris are ok and getting some TLC. I really want to be a drop dog volunteer someday, especially after seeing the pictures of them giving the dogs some personal attention and lovings!
Your updates have been so special. The GPS tracker just does not have that same personal touch! Thank you thank you…
Glad to know that Scooter is safe at home! She looks so cute and sweet!
Poor Boris, he's probably disappointed he will miss the rest of the fun. Hope he can come home soon!
Am glad Boris & Scooter are okay. Good job dogs. Thanks for your wonderful updates.
Awww, Bo-Bo, poor baby! I'm his biggest fan! I'm glad both dogs are okay, and I love how attentive Aliy and Allen are to their dogs well-being. Go Red and Black teams!!
Aww hang In there Boris and scooter.
