Sorry we have been so lax in reporting on the beginning of training for the 2012/2013 season. With the wrap up of the research project, continuing presentations on the Denali Express and fall maintenance projects scheduled before the first snow, we simply forgot to write about it.
SP teams started training runs on September 2. The first week of training consisted of shorter stints in rain and puddles. That dampness kept the dogs cool in 30 to 40 degree temps. The second week saw our first hard frost and temps at 25 to 30 degrees in the early mornings – great for our canines to run a 5 mile loop.
All racing age dogs, and our 8 yearlings, are in training. Early season sessions focus on simple enjoyment, mushing manners and experience in harness. Of course, the older racers always manage to impart their professionalism and work ethic to the youngsters. It’s amazing to see.
We will get some training videos posted soon. Stay tuned!
One year old Outlaw, and his siblings Bonnie and Clyde started training with the ‘Big Boys’. They easily picked up the routine. |
KENNEL MOM–
I think I didn't mention anywhere else that I have found it very comforting to read your posts all summer, a really nice family feeling for visitors to the website!
And also, I trust Wes is still doing OK – so brave to go out to a real battlefield to do good works.
