The second day of Iditarod is always breath taking as dog teams mush through the Alaska Range Mountains. Aliy and the Red Team left the Rainy Pass Checkpoint on Puntilla Lake at 3:28 PM on a snowy afternoon. This video shows the climb up through the mountains to the Rainy Pass summit.
The video does not do justice to the steep angle which the the team is actually climbing. It is also deceiving because the dogs keep up an amazingly fast pace as they climb towards the summit. You can see how they finally slow down to a slow “trudge” as they are only feet from the actual summit.
Beautiful, hard-working dogs! Never get tired of seeing the videos. Thanks so much for posting!
As always i am blown away by your videos!! I still watch the one you did of the steps. Amazing stuff!!
Fantastic Aliy Cam!… What a great looking — and hard driving! — team… Great commentary too!
What hand are you using to hold on to the sled :-).
Amazing. And very much appreciated. You give us "watchers" a view of the Idiatarod that is simply incredible.
Thanks and thanks again for all of the effort the whole SPK team puts into sharing your story. You all do a phenomenal, in fact world-class, job of communicating the quality and commitment of the kennel/dogs and the people behind them (literally and philosophically).

Wow, poling, pedaling, filming, talking and cheering on pups all at the same time – you are an awesome multi-tasker!!!! I'm really enjoying these videos, thanks for taking the time to make them and share them, Aliy!
Thanks for another great Aliy Cam video. I especially enjoyed seeing the black, floppy-eared wheel dog! And to think she's ambi-dogs-trous, too!!
Aliy rode behind me (when I had the first of hopefully many times on the runners) holding on to the quick release rope – only. Her anticipation of what the dogs will do, how to ride the runners, and what's next is amazing.
Thank you so much for taking the time to film and let the rest of us enjoy some of the adventure you had on this race.
Its great to see the bond you have with the team of fantastic dogs.
Thanks Aliy we are all so proud on your accomplishments this year.!!
I was poling and pedaling with my right arm and leg. I held on to the sled with my left hand while balancing the "Aliy Cam" on the handle bar. I cut out most of the video where I nearly flipped the sled …maybe I'll leave some of that in next time!
