Aliy and Allen had flawless ceremonial runs. Leading Allen and the Black Team in the 5th position was Chacha and Ranger. Ranger was beside himself with excitement. Chacha, on the other hand, was all business with a “been there, done that” mentality. And rightly so since she’s starting her EIGHTH Iditarod. Last year at one of the checkpoints, Aliy told a reporter that Chacha was the Brett Farve of her team. She keeps coming out of retirement. This year, the comparison holds strong seeing as Chacha not only put off retirement, but she switched teams…she leads the Black Team!
Aliy and the Red Team left shortly after with Quito and Beemer leading the show. All the dogs were noticeably energized by the crowds, especially when we took a short stop at the Horizon Lines Hot Dog Stand. They were the stars of the show!
More photos and a video from the start soon to come! All that’s left is to rest up and pack the sleds and gear for tomorrow!
Check out Allen, Bridgette and the team on MSN home site. It is a great shot of him and the team and his lovely dog handler.
