Last night, the SP Kennel crew and other sled dog fanatics made their way to Iditarod Start Banquet. And for any Iditarod musher, the night was filled with mingling, talking, and poster signing with the exception of the bib draw.
Aliy was one of the first mushers up to the podium, drawing number 18! This is a great starting position, so we couldn’t be happier. Shortly after, it was Allen’s turn. As many of you may remember, Allen has had terrible luck at the bib draw. In both the Copper Basin and Yukon Quest, Allen drew the second-to-last bib, but last night, he was feeling lucky. And sure enough, Allen whipped out number five!
Get ready for the start-
Aliy #18
Allen #5
Woohoo!
Looks like two teams with overall kennel balance–more of a 'twin towers' approach rather than a 'varsity/junior varsity' setup…with both teams certainly capable of finishing in the top 20. I think the barometer here should be how our two teams compare with other multi-team kennels! P.S. YEAHHHH TUG!!!
Way to go Allen – it shows that paying your dues in the last two races did not go unnoticed by the powers that be. Wish I could be there but will be rooting you on from WA.
Both teams look incredibly strong – I don't see too many youngsters needing training. Wow – SPKennel!
Go, Go, Go.. we'll be watching and waiting, best wishes to you both..and the pups too, of course!
