With the Copper Basin 300 Mile Sled Dog Race coming up this weekend, we plan to give you as much in-depth coverage as possible. As part of this, we want to give you a lot of pre-race coverage as well.
I sat down with Allen the other day and video recorded a talk on a broad range of race-related subjects. We have to be a little careful about how much we say in public about SP Kennel Team strategies, but there’s still a lot that we can share with you!
In this first segment of a 4-part series, Allen starts out talking about what else… The Dogs!
Very cool.
And there's something funny about seeing the dogs wandering randomly in and out of the frame.
We're glad you like it… and we're delighted the wandering dogs amused you… Funny thing to us is that we've always got so many dogs around we don't even notice… Something I did notice in editing is that there is some snow on Allen's sled runners (because we had just brought it inside) which, If you watch closely over the course of the series, you will see slowly melt… Our talk lasted a total of 45 minutes, so that may give you an idea of how cold it is in our shop despite being "inside"!…
Even though the sled dogs are the stars of this site, I can't help but ask about Tig the house dog, who we saw enjoying garage-wandering privileges.
I remember seeing a picture of Bridgett's dog Remington on Aliy's 4th of July posting. Any chance that Tig and Remington are related?
"Your" Stella seemed to find lots of things to explore as well.
Lisa – The pet dogs thank you for inquiring about them! To my knowledge, the only relatedness between Tig and Rembo is that they are both Black Labs… So, I guess they are related, but it would have to be very distantly at best… Yes, yes, my dear Stella… She can be busy when she's not sleeping!… Did you see her circling the saw horse? Somewhere in her pea brain she has an infinite circling synapse… It is mostly amusing, and sometimes annoying… But, all that aside, the pet dogs are great!
Once the teams are set (on the course?), will you be able to post the list of dogs running?
Yes, I did notice Stella circling, like she was out in the yard instead of getting to be inside.
Enjoyed Alan discussing the race and the differences with the longer races. Can you ask Alan to discuss the sled he will be using and show the various components on it? The sled behind him looks like an advanced version of a Tim White Tobaggon. Does it have the plastic smooth bottom on it? Is there a drag mat attached plus the regular brake? Thanks for doing this series and best wishes to Alan in the CB 300! Dave in NC
