In Part 3, we’ve saved the best for last. Continuing and wrapping up the physical therapy run, Aliy provides you with a fully narrated ride on “the slough.” Along the way she enhances her evaluation of the rehab dogs and shares her final assessment of their fitness to return to regular training. You will also see that even with only 6 dogs on a slow run, you still cover a lot of distance in a hurry!

Love the videos. Interested in learning more about the gaits the dogs show during the runs. Which is best for mid vs long races? Does the musher have any control over which they use? How does it affect the dogs and their fitness in the long run to perform? Please talk about the movements of the dogs during the races in general. Also curious about their feet. Webbed, furry underfoot, do you clip the fur so as to not get snow packed, etc. Thankx!
Lynn
I am wondering about their hairy feet too because my Golden Retriever Mix needs to be trimmed constantly in the winter time since he gets ice balls between his toes and he stops on our walks to gnaw them out. I know you don't put their booties on all the time. Mostly just for races right?
Thanks for the info ahead of time.
Loved this ride ~ Especially the narrow trail by the beaver dam! Thanks for taking us along! It would be nice to see a clip sometime of what it's like to meet another musher and team out on the trail. Lynn from the Catskill Mountains (you guys seem to attract alot of "Lynns" to your site!)
Best website ever made! Great job!!
I'll forward your questions about gaits, hairy paws, etc. over to Aliy and see if she can come back with something… It's "above my pay grade" if you know what I mean!
What a great resource!
