I sat down with Allen and Aliy over the weekend and filmed a “debrief” with them about the CB300. I’ve edited the video into a three part series that I think you will find very interesting.
In Part 1, I ask them about the race in general and they respond with their customary candor, grace and openness. You may be particularly struck by Allen’s description of his heartbreaking setback only 20 miles from the finish.
As always, great information!!
Thank you, Allen and Aliy, for doing this debrief. I was hoping you would. Your response to what happened with the truck is classy.
Great commentary on the race! Can't wait for the rest. Its really nice to hear that Aliy and Allen appreciate all the hard work of the race coordinators and volunteers. Do most mushers feel this way? Also, I'm curious about the Denali Doubles race coming up…any chance you will be telling us more about how it is set up? I see on the website each team can have two mushers…
Thanks .. this was really great information. I've been waiting to hear what happened on leaving Glenallen. You never know what will jump up and bite you and I am so sorry it had to happen to Allen. Could you give us a bit more information (if you can) on Aliy's dropped dogs and the one that Bridget dropped?
Emily — We're just starting to wrap our heads around the Denali Doubles!… It's a new race with some quirks to it… We promise to share all we can… As soon as we figure it out!
Frank — You have to be just a little patient!… I'll be posting a segment all about the dogs for tomorrow… and all about the mushers for Wednesday!
Stay tuned!
Great info….I'm wondering how come you guys chose to run the CB300 and not the Kusko300? Is it a location thing or b/c Alan loves the CB300? I noticed the Kusko300 has a much larger purse.
All the best.
any answer to the above?
Anonymous — All of that. It's difficult — and expensive — getting to the the Kusko, and it's almost impossible to do both because of timing. Allen prefers the CB300, and Aliy doesn't like the Kusko… It's too much of a "grind"… That's really all the "reasons" there are.
great, thanks Macgellan!
