I can not even begin to comprehend the amount of work it takes to put together one dog team, much less three.
Not only does SPKennel serve as an ambassador for the sled dog world, but also as a loving and supportive family.
In a time that has been taken over by reality tv shows with families bickering nonstop, the three of you are positive role models for balancing work and play!!

I've just found your blog and it's fabulous. Problem, I can't figure out who "you" are (the narrator) and how Brigette might be connected to Allen and Aliy. Any chance of a brief introduction for us newcomers.

Hi Heather! — Welcome the the SP Kennel Dog Log!
Bridgett is one of Allen's two daughters. She is a nurse in Nome, were she lives with her husband Scotty Watkins. She "commutes" to the Kennel here in Two Rivers about once a month to help work with the dogs, to run a few races and generally to add her wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the operation. She is without doubt one of the "doggiest" people in the world, an accomplished musher and just a delight to be around.
I am known as Macgellan — or just "Mac" — on the internet, and I'm honestly not sure how best to describe my role at SP Kennel. Perhaps the best way to put it is that I'm an "everything but racing dogs" guy. I spend a lot of my time working the Dog Log. The rest of my time gets pretty well filled with a wide array of "stuff" that Aliy and Allen have little time for in their "crazy busy" dog schedule. I get to hug 60 dogs any time I want to, and that's pretty sweet!

I watched the fatherly/motherly attitudes towards Bridgett's first adult race with wry understanding. Allen, just as fathers do, encourages the child to do as much as she can while Aliy moderates that enthusiasm with safety concerns and the wisdom that comes with that – paaarfect.
