Schmoe and Sissy
Here is a “Puppy Update”! They are 2 1/2 weeks old and very healthy. Pepper has been a great mom, so they are growing like weeds from momma’s milk. They are not very active yet, but I’m sure you will agree … they are cute all the same.
We enjoy intimate interaction with our sled dogs from the beginning. They are all individuals and deserve the care and respect that any future champion should receive. We try to make time after a long day of training to sneak in a little puppy time.
Pups: (l to r) Schmoe, Sissy, Spoog, Slanky, Scooter
Schmoe and Spoog are the biggest, although Sissy and Scooter are not far behind. Spoog has a great skunk streak down his back and Sissy Girl has a mustache. Slanky is defiantly the little gal of the litter.
They aren’t really on the antique Oriental rug …. really!
Lisa asked me if I've had dogs born here at SP Kennel that eventually go to other homes and become All-Stars else where.
That happens rarely. I don't breed a great number of dogs – therefore we usually don't have "extra" dogs to sell.
It all comes down to numbers for me. I want an intimate connection with EACH dog. I can't do that if I have 20 puppies each year. That works for some people, but it doesn't work for me.
This is not to say that I haven't placed dogs in homes where they shine brightly. One of my pups is the main leader at a fantastic Tourist Mushing School, one of my pups is a leader on a race team in Idaho, one of my pups is on a dog team in Croatia, several of my pups are on an up and coming Iditarod Race team….. I could go on and on…I would be bummed if I placed a pup in a team that beat my team. That would mean that I did not read that pup correctly … which is what it's all about for me!
I know where most of the pups that I have whelped in the last 10 years live.
