The Black and Red Teams will be racing the 2016 Copper Basin 300!

This year the CB300 committee allowed the top 10 finishers in the 2015 race the opportunity to sign-up before they open registration to all other mushers on October 3rd. This was because last year the race filled up in about eight minutes, such is the popularity of the race. As the Black Team won and the Red Team were 6th, both Allen and Aliy were able to sign up early.

The CB300 is a race Allen and Aliy enjoy very much. It really is “the toughest 300 miles in Alaska” and the kennel has enjoyed much success in this race. Allen and the SPK Black Team have won this race six times and Aliy and the Red Team have finished in the top 10 on multiple occasions.

2015 Copper Basin: Allen, Kodiak, Quito and the Black Team Champions; Aliy, Scruggs and Red Team sixth!

The CB300 has also been a great proving ground for many of our youngsters as they negotiate some of the most difficult terrain and sometimes, extreme weather. For some of them it is the first real test and they’ve gone on to great things with this race under their belt/harness.

So, look out for the Black and Red teams when the race starts on January 9th in Glennallen! We’re excited!!

  • It is hard to believe the racing season is approaching already. I will be watching the CB300 as well as the YK and the Iditarod. My son's fifth grade teacher is an Iditarod fan and teaches a unit on it every year. She hopes to be the Teacher on the Trail one day and I am excited to be a 'classroom Mom" again and follow the Iditarod with the students. Wishing the best of luck to SP Kennel on the upcoming racing season and a healthy one to the two legged and four legged participants. 😉

  • In reading the posts from last year, using the search feature on your site, I was reminded once again how exciting this CB300 was!!!

Because of the time difference, I happened to get up in time to watch the awards ceremony live Jan. 2015 (had to cut the sound so as not to awaken sleeping family members). And remember watching it during the day for the second time, this time with sound, laughing so hard at Ryne's acceptance of third place award…and what did happen out on the trail when the Red Team passed?

So grateful for everything SP Kennel shares, fondly,

    Margaret

  • I love this race!! Allen and the Black Team have many wins under their belts!! It was SO cool last year to see our boy Chemo in lead on the Red Team last year at the finish line….nice they had a live stream going! It's a great race to really gear up for the season…..Dog Teams AND Arm Chair Mushers alike!! I can't wait to see what SPK can do this year!!

  • CB is a great race for SPK.wonderful training for young SPK racers. All the best to both Black & Red teams. Yes races will soon start will be an exciting season. Thankful for early sign ups.

  • You say above Allen won 5 times – my recollection is that the Black Team are 6 time champions. No matter, it's a superb achievement either way and speaks to how great your kennel is. Hope you all have a wonderful 2015-16 mushing season. I will be cheering you on and am always be proud to be a fan.
