As you can see, the Weather Forecast in for Interior Alaska certainly says… “Summer, summer, summer!”
The dogs hide in the shade and dig deep “cooling” holes in the dirt during the day. Throughout the day there is not much husky activity. However, the entire yard livens up at about 10 PM when the temperatures cool. And let the ruckus begin! Usually by about midnight we have to calm the playing down and tell everyone that it is now time to sleep. The response is “Why sleep when we can play?!”
I was amazed by summer in the Fairbanks area last summer. I felt sorry for the dogs as they don't like the heat but I was pleasantly surprised. Even a desert rat was not chilled! Beautiful but the cold acclimated denizens need lots of down time. But they earned it with the winter work!!
The weird thing is we are not a lot warmer down in New Mexico right now!
Warmer in Alaska than Connecticut!!!
Or at least almost!
Lends a new meaning to "hot dog!"
It could be a learning experience for them – to rotate their napping with the sun's movement???

Of course they want to play….19 hours of daylight with about a 7 minute gain each day allows for LOTS of time for pups to play! Heading into the longest days of the year coming up! Glad to hear it cools off for them at "night"!
Glad to hear that the SP Kennel dogs are staying comfortable in the warm May weather.
Can't wait for early June to see if there's a new mother in the dog yard…and who it might be!
Wow, Aliy only two hours of play.(haha) You are in the 70s & we are in the mid 90s.
The long days Alaska experiences this time of year is so interesting. My husband & I were commenting last night that our days are getting longer as daylight was dimming around 8:30 last night. Not quite the same as the long days you are having. Glad the dogs have a few cooler hours to be active.
