At 6.10am the Red Team pulled into Elim in fifth position! We are unsure how long she will stay there as she is running and resting as much as the team needs at this point.

At the time of writing there are no written or video updates about the run to Elim checkpoint by the front runners so I don’t have much to tell you, but I’m sure they will be up soon so we can update you.

Allen, the Black Team and their running mates Chuck, Yvonne and Rick appear to be at Old Woman Cabin another of the BLM cabins between Kaltag and Unalakleet. I found this image (right) from google so if it’s not the actual cabin, it will look something like this!

They are about 35 miles from Unalakleet. We see this from time to time, groups of mushers travelling together for a section of trail enjoying their dogs and each others company. This is also especially true if there is any kind of weather event as it is safer to travel in groups as they can support and help each other if needed.

The weather forecast for the Unalakleet area is for warm 32F with some snow showers – this fresh snow will make the trails slow and you might find teams travelling together will share the trail breaking duties.

  • I have always liked the history and lore of Old Woman Cabin. Thanks for the picture! Its been fun watching the race along the coast! Rest up Red and Black Teams and be careful in the "heat"!

  • Aliy and Allen are running a great race with the well being of the pups first and foremost on their minds!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
nice picture of the Old Woman Cabin. Susan Butcher used to like to stop there during every Iditarod.
    Best to all!!!

  • It looks like Allen and Rick are on the move again after Old Woman's Cabin. What a busy place this year!

It is amazing that both Aliy and Jeff are getting 13 dogs to Elim.

Last night must have been so hard for Aliy. She happily breaks more than her share of trail. Jessie passing her, wouldn't feel good. Jessie's first top 5 finish might be near. She has been in the hunt all 2015 race.
Joar is looking strong and Jeff is picking up speed again behind Aliy.
I hope Aliy and her dogs can find their happy place again and have fun with the rest of the race.

  • Loving these updates oh-so much! When my 4th grade daughter comes home from school it's the first thing we do – is check in and see all the stories and pictures and it's the best part of the day! GO ATHLETES….footed and pawed! 😉

  • I have a 3rd grader (Ethan) who too is enthralled with following the great race- his excitement & interest has inspired me & it has become a really great way for us to connect each day after work & school. So much to discuss together, marvel at & celebrate together! Thank you for helping to provide these sorts of moments Aliy, the Red Team & all of SP Kennels! Cheers to all the goodness that you are!
