It seems that Allen stuck to his plan overnight and rested for two or three hours on Birch Creek, about half way between Circle and Central. As I write this, they are about 20-ish miles out of Central and the team looks to be about 11 miles behind Brent Sass’ team.

It’s been an interesting night watching the tracker, yelling at the tracker, refreshing the tracker, closing the tracker to get some sleep, opening the tracker again because you must know what’s going on… does that sound familiar?

We are very excited to see them arrive into Central – there’s quite a crowd up there waiting for them with Meghan and Mark as well as Spencer, Bridgett and Scotty. We’ll get some info and maybe photos to you as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Meghan has just fed Scout and taken him for a bit of a walk around. He is doing great! She said “Scout had a nice long snooze. Walked around to stretch out this morning, had a big breakfast and took some snacks with him back to bed. Getting lots of love and he’s pretty happy in his straw bed.”

  • Good boy, Scout! Glad to hear he's doing well. He's in good hands. And yes, I was yelling at the tracker too, then get anxious wondering what was going on. Glad to see both teams on the move again. Go get 'em, Quito and Chica!

  • We are glued to the tracker as well. Glad to see Scout in his comfy surroundings. Cheers for all of you at SPKennel,
    Julie and dogs

  • Glad Scout is doing well, nice for the support crew to have a dog with them. I think Allen will win!!!!!

  • Yes, that does sound familiar. And perhaps another day or so of that: "You better not be downloading anything right now!"

  • I'm in full Arm Chair mushing mode….sleeping on the couch, waking up every few hours to see who is where and what's going on….put another log on the wood stove and I'm back sleeping or spending an hour reading up on the race and looking at YQ pictures! His is a great adventure….can't wait to hear the stories about this last leg!! Happy to see Scout is getting the royal treatment!!

  • Refresh refresh refresh. Allen and the team do look awesome. Go SPK! What a race we have now!

  • OMG!!! I am so happy for this update!!! Thank you so much!!! I got worried when I did not see Allen and the Back Team move for a while!!!
And, they are going to have plenty of wonderful handlers like Meghan and some of the 'gang' to welcome them!!!
Also, I've noticed that Allen and the pups are making great progress in terms of speed!!! I cannot praise you all enough for being so great and loving to your dogs and your fans!!!
Mr. Scout is awesome, handsome and adorable as always!!! I love you sweet pup!!! Thank you Meghan for doing such a great job!!!!

  • I have a friend who is friends with Brent and has one of his dogs. We are both a bit sleep deprived right now watching this race, especially since Brent had his "sleep in". This is going to be quite an ending! Go Allen and the Black Team. Quito’s pic on the Quest webpage is great. She is a ROCK STAR!

  • Hydrate and rest Black team. You did an amazing thing last night!!!
    Wooop woooop 🙂 🙂

    Snacks in bed Scout?
    That's Mac's dream come true 🙂

  • Black team, just after arriving in Central. They all look fantastic!

Chica and Quito are energized, Izzy's pacing in circles, Schmoe's cozying up with the photographer, Willie(?) a little stupefied by what he just did!, Clyde is still pulling, and all the others look like they are checking in to see if Allen is ready to go, or seeking foooood. What a team?!!!

  • Glad Scout is in good hands. What wonderful pictures. Thanks for the update. What an exciting race. Go Allen and Black Team.

  • Moore less than 2 hours behind Sass as front-runners tackle Eagle Summit

    Staff Report

4:45 p.m. update: Brent Sass arrived in Central at 10:52 a.m. and rested for four hours before heading back down the trail to tackle Eagle Summit with 12 dogs.

Allen Moore arrived in Central at 1 p.m. and was reported out at 4:30 p.m. with 13 dogs, although a reporter in Central noted he had yet to leave the checkpoint at 4:50 p.m.

  • A-Town Becky – GREAT video find:

I pasted in the url and watch the arrival at Central in YouTube – thanks so very, very much!

The Black Team is a bunch of tail-waggin' pros!!!

    Best,

    Margaret

  • Last night as I went to bed, I thought – Birch Creek will decide whether Allen has a chance. Something about the way Brent was running made me think he might not keep such a long lead. Allen ran that section pretty much as you'd expect .. one break about 3 hours near the middle.

Brent – now that is a different story. To see Brent dally so long in Central after a 10 hour stop on the trail – well, something is definitely not right and while I am an SPK fan, I do worry that the effects of Brent's concussion last year is causing him pain.

This is one hard race, no matter how you cut it.

  • Never had any doubt that Scout would be spoiled by Meghan – he's earned it and she's a very caring handler. I think it's awesome that Allen still has 13 on the line – testament to how great the SPK dogs really are. Onward to the steep summits. Go Black Team!

  • Scout is living large, though if he had his choice he probably would rather be feeling well enough to run.

Was an interesting night last night with all of us aflutter on having flash backs of last year. Who knew mushers sleep in on a race?

Loved the video of the team on Facebook. They all look alert and healthy. Go dogtheltes!
