Allen and the Black Team pulled into Circle at 3.17pm this afternoon.

We’ve just had news from Meghan and Mark who are in Circle. They said the team looked great coming in; very strong. Check out the Yukon Quest Facebook page for some FANTASTIC pictures of the team coming into the checkpoint.

You will see in those pictures he had 13 dogs on the line with Chica and Quito in lead. He was carrying Scout in the bag – he became dehydrated and was not feeling 100% so Allen carried him for the last 30 miles. He has already spoken with the vets and completed the paperwork to officially drop him from the team.

As we saw from Lydia and Wedgy in the YQ300, Scout should bounce back fairly quickly once he is rehydrated and had some sleep. Meghan said poor Scout was so confused about why he was leaving the team as she led him away but he is now cozy in the truck.

Allen completes his checkpoint arrival routine

The rest of the dogs all “ate like monsters” according to Meghan. So did Allen!

Allen tucks into his dinner – is it just me or does that look like a steak to you too?

Right now Allen is down for a nap. At this stage we don’t know if he is taking his mandatory six hour stop here, we’ll wait and see.

    Woohoo!

  • Love our boy Scout. He's so special to us – disappointed he can't finish a great race with Allen and his team mates.

  • Scout is one of my favorite pups in SPK!!! Poor baby, he put 150% into the race and still wanted to continue!!! God bless you, little brave pup! Good boy! ❤️
Yes, steak it is 😃. Good for you, Allen!!! Rest and know that we are all proud of you and the dogs!!!

  • Glad to hear Scout is going to bounce back quickly…you did good buddy! Always nice to hear appetites are strong for the remaining 13 and Allen as well….there is a "big hill" coming up in the race! Looks to be slow going right now on Birch Creek.

  • Thanks so very much for letting us all know, and we love you Scout, get well!!!

And help cheer on the Black Team and your mates from the luxury of Hollywood and Two Rivers rest stop!!!

    Woof!!!

    Best,

    Margaret

  • Heartbroken about Scout. Love him. Chin up, sweet pup! I know he's quite independent, but I hope he's soaking up some extra TLC while the pack is gone. Congrats to Ann and Tom on sponsoring such a wonderful dog. Thank you. He's so awesome!

  • How can I sleep?!!!!

When I went to work last night Allen was 2 hours short of 6 at Circle, and 60 miles behind Brent.

I get home and Allen is resting 9 miles behind Brent!!!

Lots of prayers for the safety of all dogs and mushers.

Allen sure knows how to take care of his doggies. And Brent sure knows how to make a race exciting!!!!!!!!

I'm thankful Brent is ahead of Allen this year, because if he's having an issue again, I know Allen will help.

    Be safe everyone.
Keep up the awesome race Black Team. <3

  • I hope you can convey to Scout what a great job he did, really proud of him! Lots more races in the future for him! Currently 9 miles behind Sass 200 to go. I think Quito is going to show us why she is a rock star! The entire team is fantastic to watch and cheer for!

  • It looks like Allen and Brent are both on the move again.

Brent perhaps on foot, helping his dogs pull, less than 3 miles per hour.

Allen moving at a nice pace, over 5 miles per hour.

Unless Allen runs into a terrible hazard, I expect they will see each other within a few hours.

  • In about an hour and one half Allen is going to come across an army of snowmen that Sass spent 10 hours building last night.
