People always ask us … “What do you dogs do during the summertime?” Well, quite simply, they are “normal dogs” during the summer months. It is a bit too warm in interior Alaska to hook anyone up in harness so we go with out.
That means our dogs act like… dogs.

Chemo and Chica romp through the grass”; the dogs try to navigate a beaver dam

Yesterday I took seven dogs for a walk and today I hope to take a few more. They enjoy this as much as I do. Plus we get to see the trails in a whole different light!

  • How do you get them to not run off hunting? Is there nothing too tempting to distract them??

  • That was a great video!! It's nice to see our boy Chemo in action with that big smile on his face!! Happy Happy Dawgs!! It's interesting to see how the 2 different breeds react to water….Tig is probably thinking "C'mon…..it's FUN….water is awesome"!

  • thank you. yeah; my husky would never get in the swimming pool. he would really get worked up at the kids swimming.

  • We raise our puppies with the thought that everything they need will be supplied for them: enough food, enough play, enough shelter, enough exercise… and so on. I would hope that we can continue to provide this to our dogs as the grow into adults. So most of the dogs at the kennel don't have the desire to run off and "find a better place".
But, things happen and neither dogs nor people are perfect, so once in a while, I have turned around and noticed that a dog or two have run off on an exploratory jaunt. 99% of the time I find these rascals right at the spot they left me 10 minutes later. I learn quickly who these dogs are and they wear GPS collars so I can find them no matter where they go.
Dogs aren't perfect, but I believe that generally they don't have bad intentions.

  • I loved this. Apparently you and the dogs did too. You all work so hard during the training and racing seasons, it's nice to see you relaxing with your "good dogs."

  • What a fun outing for you, Aliy & the dogs. Thanks for the explanation. What a great life you all have. Haveyou taken the fire litter out this summer?

  • I just watched your video and read the comment on GPS collars. It sounds very interesting, especially working with some dogs that are not use to get loose too much yet. Would you recommend a brand, model ?

  • What a great life those dogs have! In addition to all of having all their basic needs covered, they have LOVE from their humans!!! (and their fans).
    Tig is awesome as well!!!
