The team has just pulled into Safety IN FIRST PLACE!!!!!! Safety is the final checkpoint before the finish and they have 22 miles to go. GO TEAM GO! I’m not ready to call this one yet.

Aliy, Quito, Waylon, Nacho, Boondocks, Olivia, Chica, Scruggs, Scout, Chemo, Willie, Clyde, Pud, Mac, Sissy, Schmoe and Biscuit – you are our heroes! They have all worked hard and deserve so many accolades for what they have accomplished regardless of their final position tonight. We are incredibly and unashamedly proud of them all.

Remember this from just over a week ago? The team leaves Willow on their way to Nome.

We are heading down to Front Street to the finish line shortly to complete the dog yard set-up and await the team’s arrival. We can’t wait to see them and tell them how proud we are.

Macgellan will take it from here and see them in – thanks Mac. I’ll get pics and stories to you as soon as we have everyone settled.

If you are wondering how Allen is faring out there without a tracker and updates – Terrie Hanke caught up with him in Unalkeet – click here to read the story. He’s still in Shaktoolik, expect him to sit there for a while!

  • You said it perfectly.
We feel that about all of you, her team, too.

    Aliy 2014

    Superb!

  • I had faith Aliy could pull it off, and beat Jeff. Way to go Red Team!!!!!! So proud.

  • Oh my goodness….I'm just about jumping out of my skin!!! Aliy just left Safety and Jeff King is behind her!!! 11 more miles Aliy!!!! Oh my goodness…No sleep tonight until she goes through the burled arches.

So excited!!! Oh I hope she does it!! Go Aliy!!! Go DOGS!!!

  • Go Aliy this is your year!!!!!!!!! You are amazing, let's show the world what amazing team you have!!!!

  • I just read that Jeff's dogs have quit on him!!!!
    Aliy, run to Nome 🙂
    Blessings, Jane Eagle

  • What drive and determination from the team and Aliy!!! All the training is paying off well…. Hot bath and a beer for Aliy in Nome please!!

  • While I’m worried about Aliy stopped on the trail, thinking about 40 mph winds blowing her off, wishing I could convince myself it was just snack time…

Aliy’s arrival in Safety 1st merits another

    Aliy VS Aliy update:

Aliy 2012 took 9 days 1 hour and 25 minutes to get from Willow to Safety
Aliy 2014 took 8 days 7 hours and 41 minutes to get from Willow to Safety!!!

It looks like Aliy 2014 is more than a 17 ½ hour improvement over Aliy 2012 at this point

We’re still rooting a praying for you to get to Nome safely!

No matter who gets in first…

Aliy 2014 YOU are SUPERB !!!

  • GO ALIY!!! I'm very proud of you and your dogs. Can't wait till you make it to Nome!! Hope the winds won't keep you down for too long!!!

  • Wow ! Go Aliy and the beautiful special Sp kennel dogs . Sitting on my couch with my 15 week old golden retriever "Denali " in melbourne Australia .So excited following the gps tracker and all the posts. What a special team of dogs and what a special musher . No matter who wins every musher is a champion in those tough conditions. But everything crossed for Aliy and the doggies woof woof , howl howl. Joanne Bechaz and Denali .

  • Smart cookie Aliy, go for the Safety cabin. We want every member of SPK to make it back to Two Rivers safe and healthy.

I'm hoping you get some rest, and a break in the weather.

  • I agree whole heartedly with the entry, no matter what position Aliy and team end up- we are so proud of them and the heart they have shown.
The winds have been a game changer. We'll see how it all plays out. What a race!

  • Look at Joe Runyan blog.ITC
Possible winds have shut it down, Aliy stopped in White Mt.????

  • Aliy and her talented and dedicated team mates are awesome!!!!! No matter what place you finish, you have more than proven that there is NO weak link on your team!!!!! Safe travels to Nome…Mush on!!

  • I'm having a vision of Aliy and all her dogs piled up in a heap resting in the Safety cabin. Quito's thinking, "I don't remember stopping here before, sure glad Aliy knew about it."

  • According to the GPS tracker Aliy and team are staying in place to ride out the winds. Jeff has scratched from the race and Dallas has moved into second place approx. 4 miles behind Aliy.
Tracker shows him moving at 6.9 mph. He hasn't reached Safety.

  • Oh Aliy. What a trip. You are in Safety right now and 'others' have just arrived there. I so much want you and your team to win first place this year, but even more I want you and the dogs to be safe. The weather there is reported to be just brutal right now. Godspeed, Aliy. We're with you to the finish!!!! Go, girl!

  • So fortunate to have been at Safety!

SP Kennel and the Red Team are winners to me, no matter what!

  • WOW! I believe in the power of prayer–and was blown away at 4:30 eastern time–to see Aliy in FIRST!!!! I feel bad for Jeff King–as I did when I heard all the horrific trail tragedies this year! Still praying! Amazing what drama this race has had! I wonder if the race officials will call the race there at Safety? Appropriate name Huh?

  • Woohoo
    Dallas found the cabin.
We know they are both safe.
Prayers for Mitch, he is creeping along, keep everyone safe.

  • If Dallas and Aliy can handle the weather, I think Dallas just did Aliy a favor.
Dallas' team has been traveling 7 1/2 hours without rest.
Aliy's team just rested 2 1/2 hours after only spending 7 hours on the trail.
Aliy's team has more rest in the bank. If they can keep motivated, I believe making up the nine minute lead Dallas left with, is more likely than it would be for Aliy and her team to catch Dallas if he had allowed his team to rest.
    Hm, thank you Dallas.
    Stay safe Aliy!!!!!!!!!

  • Omg, you guys must be going out of your minds right now!!! The suspense! GO ALIY!!! GO DOGGIES!!!

  • Now this is what I call a race!! Go Aliy!! I second A-town's Becky's assessment…..advantage Aliy….but man…too close to know for sure what the outcome will be! Again, I'm so proud to be an SPK Fan!! C'mon Red Team!!

  • All of us here are so, so proud of you Aliy and Red Team and Crew and Allen and Black Team…. we are racing every mile with you right now on that doggoned tracker… Go, Aliy!!!

  • Aliy left Safety 9 minutes after Dallas. Halfway, she and her team are just 5 minutes behind.
Hopefully the Red Team will be able to wear him down soon.
