Aliy, Allen, Dingle and Honda were a huge attraction at the USS Anchorage “Dock at the Block” Party in Anchorage last night.

The Dock at the Block party was a community celebration to welcome the crew and families of the U.S.S. Anchorage to the city. The Navy’s new troop and equipment transport arrived at the Port of Anchorage during the day and will be commissioned in a ceremony on Saturday. The vessel is technically an “amphibious transport dock ship” and has 600 crew.

The fantastic team at Clarion Suites organised a booth for the SP Kennel crew where we had a sled and some equipment on display and gave out specially printed postcards for the event. Hundreds of people passed by the tent and chatted with Aliy and Allen, and Honda and Dingle enjoyed all the pats and smooches!

  • We're thrilled that Honda got to welcome the Navy! Thanks to you all!

  • Honda and Dingle look proud to be representing all sled dogs! They can truly testify, having been there themselves, that Clarion Suites is the place to stay – in Anchorage or around the globe, for 2-legged folks as well as, woof, woof, 4-legged racers!

Thanks for showing us how SP Kennel gets the word out about mushing!!!

  • What a great way to share the mushing lifestyle. Dingle & Honda look so proud to represent SP Kennel. Aliy, you & Allen are great ambassadors! Did you get a tour of USS Anchorage? Good picture of you with the naval officers.

  • The crew of the USS Anchorage seemed thrilled to pose with Aliy and,Dingle and Honda!
    How fun!!!

  • This must have been ab honor to support the Navy like that–and them to support you! Salute! Nice!

  • The men in our family are navy/marines and I'm delighted Anchorage city and port has received this honor of being the named port for a hard-working supply and transport ship – fits in with the hard-working, practical spirit of the Alaskans I have been privileged to meet in my short time here.

  • What an honor for the SP Kennel and the Navy! Thanks to Clarion Suites for putting this together! Honda and Dingle look so relaxed-had to be fun for them also!

  • Loved meeting you at the block party! Being from the East, it was a true pleasure to meet mushers and the dogs. And a huge THANK YOU for supporting our troops!
