The mighty Yukon River is always a challenge during the Iditarod. In 2013, the challenge was different than the normal bitter cold. With temperatures hovering in the 30’s and 40’s (above zero), this brought water – lots of it. It was in the form of rain, sleet and snow, as well as overflow and open creeks. But, when the clouds cleared away and the bright blue sky appeared, the afternoon warmth made for perfect camping! Not too many dog teams camp directly in the middle of the Yukon River. It is certainly a unique spot. But, it was so inviting this year, why not?

Thanks, Aliy for sharing the race with us. The mighty Yukon, what a place to camp. Waylon really looks skinny, has he gained his weight back? Also what was up with Puppet? Did the vet find anything? I love the way the dogs listen to & heed your voice.

Wow….I absolutely love the Aliy Cam!! That Biscuit Boy is one solid pulling machine….love that dawg!! I like how you mentioned how Puppet and Waylon weren't pulling….I didn't notice it till you mentioned it! Your trained eye is much sharper than my Arm Chair Musher "eye"! Those pups are in good hands for sure!

What a wonderful travel log Aliy. You and your dogs are true citizens of the Alaskan Wilderness. Totally comfortable in the middle of nowhere! Amazing achievement!
