After just over five hours on the road, the BLACK TEAM is settled in at Glennallen ready for the Copper Basin 300, starting at 10am Saturday. They have just enjoyed a hearty dinner and will get lots of rest tonight before they embark on 300 miles around the Copper River Basin.

The team has been finalised with Scruggs and Quito likely to lead the team out on the first leg to the Red Eagle Lodge in Chistochina in the morning. Expect to see Olivia and I.V. in lead at some point also. Click here to see the full team roster.

This will be the eleventh time Allen has run the Copper Basin 300. He is looking forward to a good race with lots of competitive teams entered. The weather forecast is for warm, snowy conditions and a few areas of ‘overflow’ are expected so it will be challenging for the teams; but then, the Copper Basin is always a challenge regardless of the weather.

The handler crew of Ray, Ryne and myself (Moira) will keep you updated as much as possible over the next few days. We’ll be taking photos and video and will post whenever we have internet connection. You may also wish to keep up to date with checkpoint times and information at the Copper Basin 300 website www.cb300.com. We expect teams to start coming in Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Go Team!

Oh and check out who is on the official CB300 poster! This pic was taken back in 2010.

  • PS — In the photo… Some of you loyal, long-time fans might just notice a couple of dogs who are once again — as always! — on Allen's Black Team… Anybody care to name them?

  • Go Allen and wonderful dogs!!! Happy trails and a great safe race! Your love and care of the dogs are remarkable. Go Black Team!

  • Great picture – love the signatures of the mushers! A collector's item for sure!

    Thanks!!!

  • One day I'll remember to stay signed in so my posts show up. LOL
In looking at the roster, I notice sseasoned vets, mid level vets and really green racers. Is this a common set up? I'm a newbie…

  • Nacho's not on the team, my my. But it is good to see some of the younger dogs are stepping up to fill the plate. Mac, I see Biscuit and Tatfish at wheel. I don't see any of the other team members in this photo, but then I always miss or mix up someone.
