When Meghan and Moira arrived at SP Kennel in mid October there were already a few “to do’s” on their list. One of these was to build themselves an Outhouse. You see, in many parts of Alaska, including Two Rivers, people do not have indoor plumbing – this includes Meghan and Moira’s Taj Mahal log cabin.

So, Allen, Meghan and Moira were able to cross off “Build an Outhouse” from their list yesterday! Here are photos documenting the ordeal. Remember… it’s never easy!

  • Fantastic!… You haven't lived until you've used an outhouse at -60 degrees!… Just one question: Are you going to paint it red?… That would make it a classic!!!

  • Oh Excellent, is it a Double Seater? Last season I was too intimidated to approach and use the old one.

  • Great. so happy you are living the dream, ladies. Do it while you are young enough. Take good care all of you. Padee in Santa Rosa Ca

  • For those of us in Weston, Connecticut who have been out of power since Monday, thanks to fallen trees taking out power lines (100% of town originally, now down to 55%), talk of outhouses fits right in! Weston likes to call itself "rural!"

I assume the heating system in the "cabin" in Two Rivers is the fireplace?

  • Maybe it's time to resurrect the very popular, and entertaining, Alaska Wall Calendar for 2014. That give you ladies time to make it "special".

  • Actually, an outhouse is a luxury at -60F. Take an Arctic trip with SP Kennel. You can't even find a bush to hide be-hind (catch the pun ??…)
