There was a small ceremony today as Quito earned her SP Kennel MVP honors and her red roses that Aliy promised her during the Iditarod Finish Banquet.

All of us at SP Kennel are lucky and honored to have Quito as part of our team!
Quito has certainly matured into a powerful and confident leader in the two years since her “Meet The Dogs” video was filmed!

While we’re at it, click here to revisit the original story of Quito’s sponsor over in New Zealand!

  • Quito is one fine athlete. For her size she has done what many bigger dogs cannot do. I was very happy to follow her in YQ & Iditarod this year. Congrats on your season Aliy & Allen.

  • What a dog! Way to go, Quito! And those are some beautiful roses…very well deserved. (I think she deserves a few extra salmon steaks too. Perhaps one per race she kicked butt in…at least. 😀 )

  • Great work Quito. Beautiful, smart and athletic and accepts her honors with grace and dignity. What more can be asked for.

  • What a lot of talent in one small furry package! SPKennel has a lot to be pleased and proud about after this season. Roses for you all!!! You know that great picture that Sab took during the Iditarod where your team is racing right at the camera – a smiling Quito in the middle? I snagged that picture for my computer screensaver, now I get to see her cute face every time I sit at the computer!

  • Congrats, Quito. You're a beautiful, intelligent and graceful athlete who brought your team home safely–with grace and style. Way to go, girl. Wear those roses with pride,

  • Love the ceremony for her roses. FYI-Robbie's nickname when he was a baby was Poquito Locito. We still call him that fondly. Poquito in any form is a great name!! Sally

  • Quito, I'll bet that somewhere in this world (who knows in how many countries?) there will be pups named after you. You are really a special and lovely dog!

  • Quito you sure pack a lot of energy in that small body!! Congrats on a great season 🙂

  • Wow – watching her grow into this fantastic creature has been very satisfying. The whole litter is special, for that matter, Chica, Bonita, and Nacho are all hard working. Congratulations to Aliy and Allen on a fine breeding and wonderful group of dogs in this generation and the next.

  • There will be one very happy child when she sees this during the weekend! We are so very, very proud of you all and of 'our' dog.
Thank you for doing this, and for being such role models for Indigo. SP Kennel means so much to this NZ family.

  • Thanks you, SP Kennel!!!

This story and the ability to communicate so much more than the simple, or not so simple, racing ins-and-outs, is what makes me a fan of SP Kennel.

Your videos in the past were great teaching tools for less than perfect readers and wonderful for those who never have been to AK, and your post-Iditarod record of the trail are very much like Jack London adventures! Woof, woof!!!

  • How is it that Quito's body is able to hold her heart knowing that it is the size of Alaska? We all would be so lucky to lead like Quito. I can only guess what she would say about Aliy and how proud she is to be part of such a great family kennel.

  • The photos of Quito and team on various sites showed Quito to be continuously a winner… congrats, Quito!

  • what a great season Quito and the whole Sp Kennel had. Concrats again to everyone and an extra big hug for the wonderful four legged girl.

  • She'll wear yellow rose's next year. Congrats again Quito and the rest of the team. Aliya you have a super team with a very large heart just like you.

  • I have just loved watching Quito and her success this year! Actually, have become more of an SPKennel Fan than ever before. Can't believe she wasn't VOTED Golden Harness Award -looked like a no brainer to me. Congratulations Quito -and to Aliy, Allen, and Ryne in quite a successful year. May you have many more!!!

  • Beautiful just beautiful.Even a good dog loves a rose now and then ! And to watch her beloved mushers put their feet up with a hot cup of coffee. Don't forget to do that too.
All the best & eyes to the moon ~

    Gotta love it,
