Here’s a Sunday treat for you…

Ride along with Mac on his first run as a sled dog!

That’s him in wheel position… Where, I suspect, he has a fine future ahead of him!

Enjoy!

(PS — I don’t know about you, but I think Chica and Cutter can be very proud of their “love pups”!)

  • Oh man, oh man, oh man – we got to see all three puppies on the tug line!

I am feeling satisfied and happy inside having watch the videos of them beginning to work. Chica and Cutter's spontaneous love affair has blessed the kennel with 3 more wonderful dogs, for sure.

  • That was so cool to see Mac take his first run. I enjoyed this series.
Question: Do you put the pups in wheel position on purpose to get them used to the sled? Or is it so they don't get tangled with the other dogs?

  • Do the pups learn the commands "Gee" and "Haw" only by doing what the other dogs on the team are doing? It amazes me that they can do that!

  • Mac is one BIG boy! It was nice to see him enjoying himself on the trail!

    Great videos of the pups!

  • These clips were fun to watch!! How often will the pups be taken out to do this? Now that they have a taste of what's going on there, they're gonna want more!

  • Answers:

The pups were in wheel so that a) Bridgett could keep really close track of how they were doing and b) so that they could see the most dogs ahead of them as role models.

Dogs learn Gee/Haw from experience in the line — i.e. from association of what happens when the commands are caalled

The pups may get another "late-season" run or two, but will mostly have to wait until next winter.

  • Thank you for posting the videos of my Chica's pups. They definitely have a lot of energy. They get their talent from Cutter and Chica. I think they are going to be great Iditarod sled dogs in a couple of years. Cutter's sponsors, Linda Toth and Teresa Hollingworth, must be very proud of Cutter and his mystery pups!

  • These pups are not even 6 months old and running with the big dogs. Wow, what a great future ahead of them. It will be fun to watch them grow and become legendary sled dogs. Just wait until Big Mac grows into those monster paws of his.

Thanks for these wonderful video clips, they are so enjoyable.
