Hi Pam from Texas- The mushers only use the 2nd sled during the ceremonial start, the dogs get so excited and want to GO!! The 2nd sled and rider just slow things down to a managable pace. The Iditarider is actually sitting in the basket of the front sled–wouldn’t that be fun!! Cathy – Anchorage
