With more than 60 dogs at the kennel, it is physically impossible for Allen and Aliy to run all of them at the same time. This means that some of them get left behind. Now, I don’t pretend to really know “the mind of the dog” but it seems to me that those who are left behind are pretty bummed about it… Some especially so.
I shot this video of what it’s like at the kennel “after the bosses are gone” and thought I’d post it to share a little “behind the scenes” action. I think those of you who are fans of Heeler — “Mr. Personality” — will find it especially entertaining, and I hope the rest of you enjoy it as well!
(Note: Aliy said the only thing she doesn’t like about the video is that it shows what the kennel is like before it has been cleaned. I’ve assured her that everyone will understand, especially since I ended by saying “it’s time to clean the dog yard!” If you’d like a real look “behind the scenes”, I’d be happy to share that little bit of fun with you some day!)

Are all of the dogs exercised in rotation? Or are the experienced ones like Teddy and Cha-Cha taken out daily to build up endurance and others fill our the team to check on how they are doing? I am curious if each of them gets a run daily.
Are all the dogs exercised daily? Or are the seasoned runners like Cha-Cha and Teddy always out to build endurance for racing season and the others fill out the team to see how they are progressing or better still who gets along with who?
Yes….we’d love to see a little behind the scenes fun! I have a hard time keeping up with my two dogs. I can’t imagine taking care of 60 dogs!
These videos are just wonderful, I watch them over and over again. They really make me respect and cherish my own dog Rosco even more, realizing the life he lead before retiring to the sofa in my home. And by the way, he is a retired sled dog of SP Kennels. These dogs are not only hard working, smart, and full of energy, but are sweet and gentle souls.

Heeler!!! What a tail!!! The fierce wagging is awesome but my favorite it the cyclone tail movement! Round and round and round! With that tail you could work in an industrial sized kitchen and the cooks could throw out the mixer!!! Love it! 🙂
