Before the 2016-17 Dog Mushing season starts for us, we want to take the opportunity to go through the SP Kennel dogs in depth. This will be a Series of videos showing our Racing Dogs grouped by their age class. These videos are shot while Aliy and the dogs are in one of the kennel’s ‘Play Pens’.

Here are the 6 and 7 Year Olds

We generally say that our Racing Dogs are between the age of 2 and 9 years old. The youngest and oldest of these dogs will usually compete on the less competitive JV Teams, whereas the dogs who are between 3 to 7 years old are often on the Varsity Teams. There always have been, and surely will be, exceptions to the average.
The Yearling Class will also have a chance to compete in limited Races during their first season in harness. However, the Youngest Class — the Puppies — will not be in harness until they are mentally and physically able to succeed. This depends upon what time of year they were born and their genetics. They could be in harness as soon as Spring or as late as Fall.
Remember that all of our dogs are individuals and there are no “Age, Gender or Size Rules” at SP Kennel. Every dog gets a chance to race.

    Thanks ever so much, sincerely,

  • Do not often comment,. Just want to let you know how much I appreciate all of your posts. Today and yesterday were very enjoyable and enlightening. Your handling of the dogs is absolutely amazing. You know intuitively how to introduce each and everyone of them without alienating the other ones. No jealousy there.

  • Thanks for the videos on the racing dogs. It is really fun to see them on summer vacation. It looks like they are all having a very good time. I also enjoyed the new photos in the slide show.

  • Yes – thank you for taking the time to record all of these – what great videos! I love it. Like Nessmuk, I think, said after the last 2 videos "happy dogs, happy mushers, happy fans." Bingo. SPK has it. And I think you all have figured out the most important part of that equation – happy dogs – woo-hoo!!! They are all hilariously happy. What a great race season you have coming up with all of these powerful and happy dogs. We will all be following and cheering you on.

  • Amazing, Mac is a super dog, & oh my Chemo was really enjoying her play time. Thanks Aliy for showing us another side of the dogs.

  • Chemo looks like he still has puppy energy!

Mysterious Mac- stay cool now! So powerful.

And those sibs- Schmoe, Scooter, and Sissy…what a hard working, positive core for the racing team! Sissy, I saw you chompin on that bone! Good girl!

  • Awesome, simply awesome!!! "Super sevens" PLUS Chemo the leaping raring to go guy (of course he's only 6)!!!

And upon watching the video for the 3rd or 4th time, I am in agreement with those who have noted the wonderful edits adding the pix of the dogs at a young age!!! So special!!!

    Thanks once again,

    Best,

    Margaret
P.S. And sharp eyes prize to the poster who remarked about what may very well be more pictures on the slide show!!!

  • Thanks for the video! Happy Dogs, Happy Aliy and Happy Fans!
They all respond when called. Go Get Them SPK!
